<p>Just out of curiosity, how do they decide who's Valedictorian at your school? Do they even count Final Semester of Senior Year into being Valedictorian because doesn't school let out for Seniors near graduation which means you don't get a lot of notice if your picked as Valedictorian, or since in many high school yearbooks Valedictorian is shown even though you get them until the very end of semester, but not techniqually when schools is actually finished. Basically what is the final semester grades that is towards picking who is Valedictorian?</p>
<p>I'm not a val, but at my school, they see who has a weighted 6.0 ( my school does 6.0, not 5.0) and then they check to make sure all of those people have taken the same number of APs and AAs and Honors and they make sure that all of them have been at my school for all 6 years. I think the 6 year rule might change though because last year one val-to-be went crying to the principal that he should be val even though he hadn't been here. The 6 year thing isn't really elitist by the way. If a student hasn't been here all 6 years he couldn't have been in the Honors program and therefore has fewer Honors courses than the other vals.</p>
<p>Its already determined by the end of 1st semester senior year, but I don't know any vals who have not gotten straight As for 2nd semester.</p>
<p>We don't really officially announce a valedictorian but it's determined by end of 1st semester senior year for sure since grades for the 2nd semester aren't due until after school is over.</p>
<p>Just to be technical, our yearbooks aren't distributated at the end of the year. Ours are handed out during the first month of the next school year. It's so we have more time to finish and include graduation.</p>
<p>Oh, our yearbooks are passed out before seniors graduate so they can have the yearbooks and get people to sign them and all before they leave for college. I don't know if it includes valedictorian though. It's not a big deal at our school since the valedictorian doesn't make a speech or anything at graduation, I don't even know if it's actually announced.</p>
<p>Does anyone know about rankings? Like when your counselors report them to colleges? Are they just going to completely leave out senior grades when calculating those rankings? They would kinda have to wouldn't they? Especially if you're doing EA/ED. I guess they could just send it to the colleges after 1st semester senior year but that just seems like a hassle.</p>
<p>My school decided that having Valedictorians hurts people's feelings, so instead they randomly pick two kids out of the top 10% of the class. </p>

<p>We just do it by weighted GPA, and we have our own weighting system that I believe is pretty fair and takes into account class difficulties.</p>

<p>we do it by weighted GPA and whoever is above 4.0 is considered to be valedictorian. silly right? it’s one of those “we don’t want to hurt anybody’s feeling” situation. oh well, that makes me “valedicatorian” even though it doesn’t mean much at all…</p>
<p>Yeah our school is pretty much just like “well, if we can slap a various titles and awards on our top ten peeps, it’ll help them squeeze into HPYSM and thus give us more acceptances to brag about on our website, to lure prospective parents applying to our private school”. But I’m not complaining, there’s worse things you can be than used.</p>
<p>whoever has a 4.0 uw or closest to it. I think this year is the record with 6 vals usually it’s 2-3. (junior here our class had about 4 vals at beginning of the year, now down to 2).</p>
