To all SLS Applicants

I was accepted last year and attended the first week, last summer. If any of you have any questions about admission into SLS, or what SLS really entails, feel free to post here.

On another note: I have a letter of assurance to West Point!

what are your stats? Congrats on your LOA!

Nice! But make with the stats.

I ripped this stats setup from Georgetown, because I am applying there too.

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2300 (800M 760W 740CR) my PSAT was basically the same thing (229)
[] SAT IIs: 800's on IIC, Bio, Chem
[] GPA: We don't use 4.0 system, I have a 94 GPA
[] Rank: top 10%, don't know the exact
[] Other stats:
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: New York
[] School Type: Large Public
[] Gender: Male
[/ul]Other Factors: Swim team, Key Club, tons of other stuff, but you really can't list any of that on the app anyway.
General Comments: I'm pretty sure they look at SAT scores and GPA very heavily, because the application was very concise and didn't allow for much freedom.

I just took the SAT for the first time on December 2, and I recently received my scores; however, I think they're horrible!

Math: 600
Verbal: 530
Writing: 490

I'm definitely going to retake it in the spring and raise my scores. I've already applied for SLS, but do I stand a chance of actually getting in with scores like that?

FuzzySlippers,

Don't think that you need such outstanding stats to get in. While House's stats are outstanding, mine, by comparison, are downright crappy. Oh and yes, I went to SLS, and am now admissible with a primary nomination from my Congressman, just what I needed to get in, so now I'm basically in.

I think I went in with a 54M,54V,54W PSAT score and a 580V,560M,540W SAT score. My class rank was good though (3 out of 290).

Oh and House- which squad were you in? I was in 1st Platoon, 7th Squad.

4th platoon 5th squad session 1 of SLS last year. I'm also available for questions.

On the West Point admissions note I've already recieved my appointment.

"I'm pretty sure they look at SAT scores and GPA very heavily,"

SAT/PSAT scores, class rank and course difficulty are really important; interestingly, GPA is not factored in that heavily.

what were your EC's spectrez??

Yeah, I was in Platoon 4, squad 4.

Yo, USMA011, Thumb's up let's do this!

Don't worry too much about the EC's, just apply early, since I'm pretty sure that SLS, like WP, is rolling admissions.

No one has questions about SLS? It seems like everyone is just worried if they will get in or not...You guys should be more worried about PT.

I applied yesterday. Is that early enough? lol

Def early enough, I applied in like march or something.

Btw, I just wanted to clarify, because my last post was sarcastic about PT. Physical Training or PT is a complete joke at SLS, but you get a taste of what WP will really be like. (Minus the gas chamber)

Fuzzy Slippers,

At the time, I was vice president of a club for 2 years, president of a club for 1 year, member of i think two other clubs, varsity water polo 2 years, varsity swimming 3 years and captain that year. i was also an active church goer.

lol but for reals, SLS is meant to be a kick @$$ college visit. Don't worry too much about it. The first day we were there- party. The second to last day we were there- party. Relax and know that you don't HAVE to go to SLS to get into West Point.

lol, but yeah, don't use me as the benchmark- i had really crappy stats then and I still kinda do. I guess I got lucky. Oh and no, I didn't apply early. I applied in February because at the time, I was only thinking of applying to USNA and USNA's summer seminar didn't accept applications until February. Oh and just an FYI, I wasn't invited to USNA summer seminar lol. Obviously I guess.

Ok well good luck! Keep those questions comin!

PT wouldn't be a problem for me anyway; it's pretty much all we do in JROTC

i was in p2s7 of week 2. and btw, the pt at the sls was easy, even for an unfit kid like me, u shouldnt worry about it. the only thing u should worry about is not sleeping at the daily briefings after the pt and breakfast. it was so hard for me to stay awake lol.

u guys have to look forward to going to camp buckner i think it was. the obstacle courses and tryin out the guns and stuff was really sweet.

what kind of guns?
like m4...ooh im gitty xD

haha yeah week 2 had it better than us week 1 guys. our weather was horrible so we couldn't do the obstacle course. instead, they put us in this one gym and had another round robin of "exciting" activities such as watching band of brothers, learning how a vietnam era radio works, how to feel on detainees, how to read maps, and how to clear a room using coat hangers. lots of fun lol.

oh but yeah, the 82nd guys were really chill. i liked them lol.

House - LEEEROOOYYY JENKINS. that was such a stupid motto. I liked the platoon that changed it every day. We had some kickass squad leaders though. Who did you have? I had some girl who wouldn't let us do the motto we wanted lol.

We didn't get to do the obsticle course / weapons for some reason.. I think it was too rainy. We got to touch and look at them, but not fire them or even go to the obsticle course.

PT wasn't bad... climbing thoes stairs sucked (House and I had the 6th floor..that was fun!).

Best part was the West Point Mixer.... except the fact that there were about 8x as many guys! It was still fun, if you wanted to dance and enjoy yourself you could! Don't be one of thoes people who sat on the balcony, excluding themselves ... get in there! I know I made some friends I still talk to today because of that mixer.

Spect - yeah, that round robin thing.. lol.

Staying awake in thoes briefings was hell... It was like 2 hours of sitting there, listening to a different person talk... atleast in the classes we were active!

hehe that platoon that changed it up every day was 1st platoon =). i vividly remember:

First Sergeant: REPORT!
1st Platoon Platoon Sergeant: My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard
1st Platoon: DAMN RIGHT ITS BETTER THAN YOURS!

oh and i was on that balcony during the mixer! The "easy" girls were out there lol. But i came inside when it got too cold and talked to the people at the tables. I was on the dance floor a few times though.

Yea 4th platoon was the best though, all you other platoons were pussies for not doing the "voluntary hazing." :-)

USMA011: I was in Sarge Guirrado's squad, she was like this little hispanic chick. Sgt Jonas was the best though. We made all the Chuck Norriss jokes into Sgt Jonas jokes cuz he was so ****ing badass.

BEAT NAVY YO
