chances for SLS

Yesterday the window for the Summer Leaders Seminar opened and i submitted my application just now. I would greatly appreciate if you could chance me for the SLS.

-4 years of outdoor track (1 varsity letter, 1 year team captain)

Question: Will my PSAT scores prevent me from acceptance? How much does applying early help you in regards to admission? Thank you!

Looks pretty good, PSAT scores aren’t bad, but remember, the summer programs the service academies have have limited space and are mainly used as recruiting tools (targeting those who might not normally be able to visit) so if you don’t get in, it’s not a HUGE deal.

It looks like you have a great balance of academics, athletics, and leadership. From what I have seen applying early does also help. Best of luck!

Yeah I applied for the SLS as well. January 8th. Supposedly, the quicker you the apply, the better your odds. I found it interesting they didn’t ask for GPA. My first choice for area of study for the week was the Mock Trial.

They didn’t ask for GPA because every school weights differently. A 3.8 at one school could really be a 4.0 at another.

The order in which you apply to SLS has nothing to do with who gets chosen. The same criteria applies to everyone who applies during the open enrollment timeframe.

When do acceptances/rejections start to be sent out for SLE? I know that it’s rolling admissions, but how long do the early applicants need to wait for news?

Liaison here - the notification date has been changing from year to year. When my oldest applied (Dec 2009), it was in December and he received his acceptance 3 days later in the mail. It very much was a “first come, first served” process.

The following year was similar with the process, but last year they moved the date to January for applying, but still did a quick return on applications. I’m sort of surprised that we haven’t seen any acceptances yet. I just checked the entire state I’m in and many show as pending but nothing else.

Without knowing where you are, it’s hard to say your chances. If you’re in an overrepresented state (NY, Texas, California), I’d find it unlikely with those scores unless you’re also a URM or recruited athlete. However, if you’re in Nebraska or Wisconsin, you’d have a good shot.

If you haven’t yet, go to [United States of America Service Academy Forums - Powered by vBulletin](http://www.serviceacademyforums.com) which is much more active on SA topics than this site. I guarantee you the first day acceptances come out for SLE it will be all over the forums! Good luck!

Nevermind! I just found out that the first round of acceptances goes out on February 1st, then on March 1st and then on April 1st.

Thank you. I found the information on Facebook’s “West Point Summer Leader Experience” page.
