I'm thinking of majoring in Biology or a science of some sort. I love the sciences and would want to work in a hospital like my dad. I want to go to UC Berkeley (UC LA looks pretty good too). I dont want to be uber rich where I have money I could literally throw away. I just want to be well educated and have enough money for a good standard of living. What about the rest of you?

To young_one: I don't have any dream schools; I just don't want to set myself up for dissapointment if I'm rejected. But, I do have schools that I would love to go to, and if I do get accepted, then it would come down to money. I read from many posts and the college sections, and I've come to realize that these schools have what I need (like vegan/vegetarian options, city life (can't do the rural, suburban lifestyle), and dance/theatre (whether it's in a form of a major, or lots of student activities to support it).

The schools I wouldn't mind going to are: University of Houston, USC, NYU, Brown, Rice, and Northwestern. These might change over the next couple of years, but I'm setting the limit to schools I apply to at 6 or 7. My parents would be paying way too much for just applications if it went over 7.

To Patrick: That is one of the things I like most about CC, everyone is civilized and respectful..some more than others. But, we all coexist happily, despite differing beliefs, lifestyles, and etc.

Idea of dream schools:

This will probably change over the years as I actually visit these colleges and other events will obviously influence it also but currently I'm thinking you know, maybe Princeton. And then maybe Stanford or Harvard. I have my good ol'state college too, which actually isn't a bad school.

Yes, this is definetly a great place. I also love, for the most part, the absence of netspeak(u kno wen ppl type lyke dis cuz itz kewl)-I did that for a good part of 7th grade and then got thorougly sick of it. And, let me reiterate, I like that there is actual conversation(rather than desperate OMIGOD DOES MY CRUSH LIKE ME??? posts).

Thank you! I didn't know the kind of emoticons you could use on CC.

To Getinside6: I don't know my major, yet..I have ideas, like I've mentioned in other posts, but I'm not absolutely 100 % sure. I think it's cool you want to work in a hospital like your dad.

To Everyone who may post a few sec./min. after/before me: Don't worry I have not forsaken you, it may seem like I have, but I will be back tomorrow. I know you all can't wait, but you must...LOL... I'm going to go and talk on the phone and finish up my math homework.

Cool! Getinside: I like biology too. thesiren: I am a vegetarian, so I will also want vegetarian and vegan options.

Sorry, I just had to add this, before I leave. I like that this is an actual conversation, too. I wish the majority of my school were more like all of you. But, that would be way too good to be true.

Getinside: As I saw that you put down UC Berk and UCLA, I was just wondering if you lived in California. California is awesome, but I'm biased since I live in NorCal somewhere near Stanford. Although I live here, I cannot see myself staying in California for college. I'll probably end up going to the east coast for college.

My dream school since third grade has been Yale... I'm currently considering a double major in English and Classics.

My goal is Northwestern for medical career
University of Penn for finance career or
Harvard for law career
My ultimate high school goals...

thesiren72102-
You sound just like me when I was a freshman... it's actually quite scary!

To all-
Like all have said, GO PARTY! Things will only get harder as you have more pressures put onto you... just to tell a little about myself,

I was involved in EVERYTHING... played on two teams sports(on three different teams in one of them), capt on both, involved in student council, took piano outside school like a mad woman, environmental club, key club, mock trial, all the honors societies, and maintained all A's.... also wanted to graduate early.

All was great until the end of my sophomore year... my parents, the school, and my friends had been putting too much pressure on me. I slowly quit all but a few of my activities against their wishes and realized that if I were not happy, there was no point to be. Now, as a senior, I do what I want to do. I know all of the overachievers out there will say, "I really love wasting my time on the 15million clubs I'm in, the 10 parties I go to each night just to keep my status up, and the charities I am half-heartedly involved in." but honestly, the most important thing you need to do when you graduate is to be able to say that you've enjoyed the last four years of your childhood.

... don't think that I'm a hermit or anything. LOL, I am head of the student government at my school, a student member of the board of education, a fitness instructor(ie, my job), VP of the key club... and a few others. I go to college at night along with high school and was voted prom princess. Colleges aren't going to care if you took 5 APs or 15 APs... they want to see that you've challenged yourself and been well rounded. Just don't stress and plan your years so you don't have to be.

-I'm off the soapbox now.

Wow, that's alot of posts.

I kept my club joining to a minuim, just Stage Crew and Science League after first marking period. 1st marking period I had marching band, and all us banders know how much time that takes up. Stage crew is fun because you can get paid sometimes and get to go in the loft. Plus, if you're doing the musical in the spring, you get to see it for free. (Our high school's spring musical is very popular and tickets sell out very fast)

young_one: Lol yeah I do live in California. I would like to go to a college here, but I wouldn't mind going to school on the east coast as well. Wanna know something funny? My new years resolution was to try to be more like those New Yorkers (the ones that do everything perfect and always drink coffee along with frequent trips to the library). I live in the San Francisco region of California. I actually love the weather year, although its cold.

To ALL about Anovice's post: I think Anovice is right when she says those things about a million clubs. I am guessing colleges can tell when your filling up your resume apart from truly enjoying the clubs your in.

To ALL again: The one thing I want to accomplish in highschool, is living a balanced life. I know it sounds corny, but hey!

anovice: I wonder if it's a good thing or a bad thing that I sound like you? Just kidding. I've kept my EC's to a minimum this year; I've already experienced the overload in middle school. Right now, I'm doing dance team at school and classes out of school (next year it will only be out of school, and depending on tryouts I could in my studio's company as of next year), guest writer for newspaper, officer of community service org.,community service outside of school by myself, member of Black History Club, and hopefully might get cast in a few plays now that the hs dance team has loosen its grip.

Yeah, it may seem like a lot of EC's to some people, but compared to last year, this year is so much easier. Even though, I loved every single activity/sport that I did in middle school, I had to be realistic about my time, and picture which activities I could actually see myself doing beyond high school.

To getinside6: There are so many things that I want to achieve in high school that I can't even list them all on here. But, I don't think that you wanting to live a balanced life is corny. I think learning how to manage your time and keeping everything balanced is a skill that even people in the work force should know/learn how to do.

hey guys freshman here... thesiren what school do u go to? im in houston too

ECs are tricks. Supposedly colleges want to see a depth of involvement rather than just sheer numbers, but sometimes it may not be apparent what the workload it. I only do two main things (Mock Trial and Math Team) Yet that takes up 4/5 schoolnights and for Mock Trial I am often there for 3+ hours, with many more hours of work at home. So it doesn't look like I've been doing much outside of school, but that takes the time away from other things. I was going to play Varsity Golf this year, but the schedule interfered with Mock Trial so I had to choose.

Don't worry about ECs too much. Hopefully you'll be able to describe the depth of involvement and that'll be enough.

A lot of my ECs are music related and is time consuming so I can't do much of anything else.
Some practices go 3-7 couple times a week

To Texas Edition: I don't really feel all that comfortable posting what school I go to in a public forum. But, if you really want to know, you can contact me privately. It would be very interesting if we just happened to go to the same school.

To Patrick: I don't have a Mock Trial at my school, what exactly is it?

To quutip: My EC's are in someway or another related to one another. That's what makes it so much more easier.
