I know that there are people on cc that have already been accepted to a medical program. Can these people please put up their basic stats, like sat scores, gpa, rank.... so that other people can see and compare?

come on 46 views and no reply. someone on cc has to have already gotten into a program.

haha, seriously.. Ya, i wish i could help you.. I'm a junior.. lol, so ive got time.. I'd like to know also.. hmm..

Hey guys! I'll be a freshman at PSU/Jefferson's program this fall. As far as stats go..I don't think I was the best of the best in terms of academics in the program. But I do think that I was selected because not only did I show a whole lot of passion and interest at the interview but also I am a pretty well-rounded student. I was ranked 5/700, SAT score of 1500, took a few AP exams and scored very well on them, founded a club at school that was focused on raising awareness on international poverty, headed a few other clubs, played varsity tennis, dance, honors orchestra...tons of volunteering. I think the very last thing is key...do a lot of volunteering at many different places. Good luck!

thanks, finally someone who decided to reply

thats awesome... what kind of volunteering activites did you do and how did you prep for your interview?

I volunteered at the hospital, at a camp for terminally ill children, special olympics, leukemia/lymphoma association, and an environmental group. As for the interview, there are many sites online that I visited to prep. I don't remember exactly what they were but if you simply google "BS/MD program interview" I'm sure you'll get something. I didn't worry too much about the interview because I was so definite and determined to be a doctor. When you are 100% sure it's so much easier in persuading someone else.

do you know how many people are accepted to the program and how many apply?

well, i guess i'm pretty much an exception. lol it might give people hope... i applied to three combined programs, two specifically geared toward students in my area south texas both were with the university of texas pan american. the first one was with university of texas health science center in san antonio (7 year BS/MD) and the other was with baylor college of medicine (8 year BS/MD). the third program i applied to was umkc's 6 year program.

as for my stats...
rank: 10/450
gpa: 103/100weighted
act: 28
sat: 1330
activities: stu co president, yearbook editor in chief, student medical organization, various medical and community related activites and volunteer work. state qualifier for journalism. among others including FFA yee-haw!
college concurrent enrollement classes: i had four, 1 from a community college
APs: Cal AB 5

with my stats and interview heavy emphasis on interview i got into all three programs. like tigger10 said, what the interviewers really wanted to know was your passion for the field of medicine. some of you might say that these programs aren't at the caliber of some of the others, but they were exactly what i was looking for. i ultimately chose the Premedical honors college with Baylor College of Medicine. full scholarship for 8 years.

my message: please don't be discouraged by others' extrememly high scores. know what you want, know what you're looking for in a program besides the statistics. heart and determination is what really takes you far :) good luck!

please excuse my grammer and punctuation

omg, wow. that's great. thanks. you really have given me hope.

damn balyor is a top notch program.......good job

thanks! i'm an entering freshmen, starting school thursday... so i haven't really conquered, but i'm well on my way :) if anyone who's from south texas (meaning anywhere from laredo south) i can tell yall about the programs i applied to. and if anyone wants to know about umkc ap. or interview, let me know :) good luck to yall!

it's like my mom always told me, it's not where you get your degree it's what you do with it. this mainly applies to undergrad though, so just keep your goal in sight and you'll reach it

Hi, I have been accepted and am presently in the dorm at JCU, John Carroll University combined program with the U. Of Cincinnatti college of medicine. This is not a really well known program. Their are 5 (I think) schools affilliated with the U of C college of medicine, JCU, Xavier, U of Cin, U of Dayton and Miami. My stats were not great SAT 1310 but I had many other things on my side. GPA 3.4. Intensive AP courses but not great scores, so I was lucky. The interview was the thing that put me over the edge, but you have to get to the interview, and that my friends , is chance and luck and hard work. I had lots of ECs and I speak 4 languages and football captain and medical family etc etc.

I'm in the RPI/AMC 7-year Physician-Scientist Program. Had a 1500, top 10% in hs class, president of a club, founded two clubs, orchestra, music stuff, did research one summer, did lots of volunteering. I had average stats for this program, the volunteering, and the genuine interest in the interview is KEY. Those interviewers can really see through fake people so make sure you want it.

i've never heard of a jcu program. how many years is it?

anyone else..?

Northwestern's HPME

SAT I: 1590
SAT II: 800 IIC, 780 Wr, 770 Chem
GPA: 4.3 w, 4.0 uw
ECs: Research, Red Cross Volunteer (didnt have any hospital volunteering tho), Debate captain/nationally ranked debater, Varsity athlete (not in xcountry, tennis, golf or any of the tradl nerd sports...), Editor of school paper.

Seems like admissions to the programs are pretty standard. High GPA, high standardized test scores, strong ECs and some demonstrated commitment/interest in medicine.
Have fun in the interviews.

ok we get it u're amazing

lolol.. wow.. sooo.. did you think high school was "fun".. :)

high school was a blast.
the perqs of being a varsity basketball player were awesome.
taking on the administration via the newspaper was a great experience.
And traveling across the country for debate was pretty dope.
Good luck.
