Hi, I realize on these forums you commonly see posts "Will I get into _" or "What are my chances for _". I have a completely different question.

Why did you go to Carnegie Mellon? When you got there what stood out to you? (pros and cons)

And lastly what differentiates CM from other top universities?

Thanks, and fyi I am a good student, just trying to decide which school I will be applying to.

Check out the alumni and faculty. There are very few universities in the world that can boast success in so many diverse fields. Among them are Nobel Laureates; billion-dollar hedge-fund managers; and winners of Turings, Pulitzers, Oscars, Tonys, Emmys, and Grammys. It’s truly a unique multidisciplinary campus. You may end up creating the next Facebook while your freshman roommate goes on to star on Broadway. Even the emoticon is a creation from the CMU community :-)

Despite the fact that it’s highly unlikely you’ll happen to be the person to invent the next Facebook, something that stands out about CMU is the fact that people care about getting their work done. “I have an assignment due tomorrow morning” is an acceptable excuse for not going to a party.

Can’t really tell you what differentiates us from other universities, since, you know, I go here and not there.
