To apply or not to apply?

I'm too not worried about my chances -- I'm a very strong student and a legacy (and while Cornell is by no means a safety, there's nothing I really could do to boost my chances). The problem is, I'm mostly looking at small, isolated liberal arts colleges. Cornell fits with the isolation, but it definately is not a small college. I visited in the fall of 10th grade (the joys of being a legacy) and loved Cornell, but as I visited smaller schools, I began to think I'd be happier in an LAC. I don't know if my love of the campus/feel was genuine, or if I simply loved the idea of college and not Cornell in particular. Another visit is out of the question, so should I assume it was genuine and apply?

My other problem: I have incredibly diverse academic interests. I'm gravitating toward medicine as a career but have no interest in limiting myself by majoring in bio or chem. I'm interested in environmental science, foreign languages (especially French and Arabic), neuroscience, nutrition, poly sci/IR...I'm especially interested in the College of Human Ecology, but, unlike LACs, applying to a certain college within Cornell means I limit my options of majors. Will a specific college/program fit me despite my unfocused interests?

the arts college isn't THAT big. apply to cornell and come visit at cornell days if you're accepted. If you liked it you liked it :) and when you visit in spring of senior year if you're accepted you'll be more current on your interest. It's the common app and 2 short essays...not too much extra work. Cornell is unique: it's like a lot of small colleges all one one campus, where everyone interacts. You can major in anything as look as you fill premed requirements. college of arts and sciences has every major under the sun, and if something you want to major in isn't in CAS, it's probably in one of the other colleges and you can do a fairly easy internal transfer. You will find your itnerests in college. I love all subjects pretty much equally, and I am just investigating avenues right now. you don't have to declare a major until 4th semester unless you are an engineer.

Your open view in terms of what you are interested in could actually be very good for your app. You can focus on that in your why cornell supplemental essay and say cornell offers everything so you want that freedom to be able to study whatever you find your calling to be, and that you recognize that cornell gives you that freedom.
