Should i apply???

I have been admitted to Stanford SCEA, but still am applying to other schools because of FA( i might not get enough). Cornell has been suggested to me.However, im not exactly sold on Cornell( ive heard many "negative things"). So why do u guys want to go to Cornell? What are its strong points? I've only got a few days to get the app in so........ ive got to make up my mind :)

how about you do a forum search for the pro's and con's of cornell instead of asking us plebocytes to regurgitate info to a stanford infatuate like yourself.

Please search "Cornell Pros Cons"

Have you visited the schools you are applying to? It's really about where you feel comfortable: no one can make that decision for you.

campus sucks and u gotta trudge through the snow to classes quarter mile apart

yeah, most definitely listen to a kid who visited the campus once ^^. great source of information right there.

1) your academics completely depends on your college/major. some are naturally more intense and competitive than others

2) the social life is great, because you are your own little town. There are lots of people, so you can always meet someone new, or someone who is like you, or someone who is nothing like you. your social life is what you make of it, be outgoing and you will meet outgoing people; join a club, and you will meet people who like the same thing.

3) great internships and recruiting. we are recruited by every top company in the nation, most of which make trips to the school just to interview people on-site.

I don't know what the negatives might be? The academics are too tough? People also tend to complain about the "competitiveness" which is absolutely subjective. People here like getting good grades, and are willing to put in the effort to do it. Then, you actually have to work to get an A, which some people are unwilling to do, and complain about when they don't get an A.

The winter here isn't any worse than most New England cities (depending on proximity to water).

The campus is gorgeous, full of natural beauty, and it is peaceful. You get to live in a place filled with serenity and intellectual stimulation.

And for those who need more social stimulation, there are always frat parties, clubs, bars, house parties, coffee shops, great restaurants, shows, plays, concerts.

I would like to add that if you're one of those whiny pussies from...I dunno, southern california seems to have a lot of those types, who cries when it rains or snows or something, Cornell might not be the ideal environment. The weather seems to be a big turn-off for certain types of people. Even down here at nyu, I have to listen to whiny "SoCal" girls cry when they see precipitation for the first time. It's not that cold here. If you're not one of those types, don't worry.

If you got into Stanford, then I'm gonna assume you're smart and competitive, so not scared by the "uber competitive" stereotype about Cornell. Good luck! :)

chendrix, engineering majors at cornell like u r a joke, get over it. and ive been to cornell many, many times. i practically live there and know half the faculty. im not saying its a bad school, but it is def not the best ivy and compared to stanford, its a joke unless ur into botany or something ridic like that in aggie school. in general, there are much better private and even some public schools that r better, so ppl shouldnt think cornell is that great just bc its an ivy...

j-hobbs, you're just making yourself sound like an idiot.

Cornell is a world-famous top university. We do live here and experience the many valuable opportunities available to us as students.

j-hobbs: go post on another forum.

j hobbs, did you not read this thread at all? he's not looking for "the best ivy" (although cornell is better than most ivies with engineering), this guy wants a good match school that might give him decent FA. Cornell gives pretty good FA and has a good engineering program, so why are you discouraging him? no one thinks it's good just cause it's an ivy...do you think if it left the ivy league, it would stop having good programs? And agriculture is just one of them...for someone who grew up near cornell, you don't seem to know much about it.
