To avoid dangerous and haunted colleges?

@GuessME5, hmm. Maybe then I’ll just dump my newly created list of haunted colleges separated from my shortlisted ones. Thank you.

@happymomof1 Thank you for that perspective. As far as I know him, he’s stable working man. But there may be things not aware of. Wish they could have a full ride. I’ll look at other options…

Thank you everybody for your opinion on my eerie question. Just love how people trash the idea of ghosts! I’m doing that for sure, now! Thank you.

You never know.

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise
He did the mash
He did the monster mash…

@ClassicRockerDad, that’s a nice poem you just made out of blue. Haha.

According to US News (the unquestioned authority when it comes to college ranking) both Fordham and Miami, Ohio are indeed among the most haunted colleges in the country. Choosing between them really comes down to which types of ghosts you prefer/fear the most. Miami is haunted by a female ghost that protects women from men, while Fordham is haunted by ghost children. Fordham is better known/more prestigious among the ghosting community because the Exorcist was filmed there.

@merc81 - Although it is not a US News top ten haunted college, Hamilton is the only NESCAC school that makes the top 40 in another haunted ranking. It is not clear if they charge more as a result of this distinction.

This might be the dumbest thread we’ve ever had. At least the ghost part. You can look here to find crime statistics:

https://ope.ed.gov/campussafety/#/

Property crime is often high on college campuses (bikes, laptops, etc) — in fact, my grad student’s bike was stolen this week (not from one of the schools you are mentioning, though). I would worry more about crimes like assault when looking at the statistics.

@TTG I had a very strange noises in the wall of my dorm room at Penn. I called building maintenance and they came with a shovel. Put a hole in the wall and grabbed the biggest rat I have every seen. I would rather have had a poltergeist.

I hope people are making allowances for the possibility that this may be a cultural difference in beliefs.

@Mastadon, you made it easier for me to choose. I’d go with Miami coz I’m not interested in females (doesn’t mean that I’m a gay), so maybe they’d let off. Fordham is spooky!

@intparent, not the dumbest. There are other extremely dumb threads out here. As a student from another country, grown up with different culture, we need to take into holistic review all these factors (whether they exist or not). It’s not easy to spend 3-4 years away from home sweet home. And thanks for the campus crime statistics. It’s handy.

@bodangles true.

It is nonsense. It’s not haunted. And frankly, even if it was, if i got to go to college for free, I’d make friends with the ghosts and get over it.

If you want to hear a ghost when your house creaks, you will. If you aren’t looking for it, you will just hear old house sounds. It’s that simple. I’m not saying there is no such thing as, but if you aren’t looking for it, you won’t find it.

Since you won’t even be living on campus, why do you even care?

@HRSMom, well said, couldn’t agree more with you on this. Ghosts lie in the eyes of the beholder. I’m not too sure of living off campus as my relative could change plans at any moment. But that’s just for 2 years. The rest 1 or 2 years, I’ll have to move in to the campus housing facility. So just making sure if all’s well.

There is a brand new dorm. No likely ghosts. You can request that…

Hogwarts has House ghosts. And I sure would have accepted my spot there!

Even if there were spirits, there’s no rule that they’d have to be malevolent. Don’t look for reasons to rule out what may be affordable options. It’s going to be difficult enough to find something outside of India.

@austinmshauri, thank you for that valuable piece of advice!

@GuessME5 You have a much higher chance of getting mugged at Fordham rather than meeting a ghost.

@gearmom, is mugging possible inside a campus??? It’s a university so there has to be security? I though it was only on the streets and alleyways.

You have to be aware of your surroundings wherever you are. Is crime in India contained to just “streets and alleyways?” No crime ever happens on your campuses?

@austinmshauri, Usually, Indian campuses are way smaller in size and population than US ones. Though there’s no extra security, it’s just the small size. Indian campuses have high rates of suicide though, a crime is seldom.
