To current students at Tech...

How much do you guys pay (approximately) a year at Tech?

I'm an in-state student with my mother making $60,000 while my father is unemployed. He receives no unemployment benefits.

I know I won't get the exact amount, but I was hoping to get an estimate.
I just submitted the in-state tuition classification forms so I will be considered to be in-state and I will not be getting my financial status this week, like the other students...

I just want to know what to expect, and how much I SHOULD be paying to attend Tech full-time.

THANKS!

If you’re in-state, and you have the grades to get into GT, then you should be attending for free thanks to HOPE.

I will get my tuition waived, but there’s more to college than just tuition. I was asking for the estimate that most in-state students at Tech pay a year like for room and boarding, student fees, books, etc.

Books run $300-$500 per semester. You can check the fees and on-campus housing costs on the Bursar’s website. Off campus housing runs $400-$600 per month with roommates or $800-$1000 per month to live alone.

Thank you @BanjoHitter. Do you mind sharing how much you pay a year? I’m assuming you’re an in-state attending Tech right now.

Hey guys, so I just received my financial aid letter and was wondering by my cost of attendance is lower than the 2012-2013 estimate of $22,000ish. Does the financial aid letter not add in housing, meal plans, fees?

@skittlescutie What do you mean, exactly? Like GT Finaid said you’ll pay less than the expected total for this year?

@MagneticZeros

Georgia Tech cost for in-state is estimated at $22K [Georgia Institute of Technology :: Financial Aid :: Cost of Attendance](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Financial Aid”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Financial Aid)

On the actual letter it says for my Total cost of attendance to be around $15K. In the understanding your financial aid link it says that this number covers tuition, room, board, estimated student fees, meal plans, etc. And then I got around $10,000 in HOPE and loans. So I’m not sure if the actual amount I have to pay out of pocket would be $15K-$10 = $5K? That seems too good to be true! So I feel like my cost of attendance is too low compared to the number that Tech gave us.

@skittlescutie oh I see what you mean now! You know, that seems plausible because from what I hear, most in state students in Georgia with zell miller/hope pay $5,000-15,000 depending on income. Did you get pell grant or any loans? And may I ask what your income is?

Also, try calling rhyme financial aid office and verifying everything! :)

MagneticZeros, did you get your financial aid letter? If you did, or when you do could you share approx number under your “Total Cost of Attendance COA”? I’m in a similar situation as you since my parents are also unemployed and have been for a couple of years.

Well, I couldn’t give you the finalized award letter because they’re still reviewing my residency status. My award letter currently says that I’m out-of-state.

Total Cost of Attendance (COA): $40,568.00
Expected Family Contribution (EFC): $5,143.00
Need: $35,425.00

So as you can see, it is not sufficient especially as an out-of-stater. Hopefully, the financial office gets everything organized and gives me the official award letter as an in-stater. Lol, I will let you know once I get it! :)
