When UM says, "While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, it is still good news. Your application is one of a group that remains under consideration," do they mean it? It makes me feel like I've still got a shot but people are saying that a deferral is a deferral nonetheless and all are treated equally in the RD round. Help!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your chances aren’t good. For Fall 2011, 14,659 applicants were wait listed, but only 42 applicants were admitted.

Deferred does not equal waitlisted. You still have a decent chance.

Deferred does not mean waitlisted.

You still have a decent chance.

Yeah, LilMoffTarkin is mistaken. Deferral DNE waitlist. They’ll explicitly tell you if you’re waitlisted.
