had i not gotten regents for UCLA, i would not have gone to either. but if i had to choose between cal and LA without scholarship to either id choose UCLA. i just like the atmosphere of UCLA better.

again, UCLA rapes cal. sun, fun, girls, all of the beauty of socal, and a less cutthroat atmosphere.

i really dont see wat cal has over LA, seeing as how theyre academically equal

wow, the bias in this thread. how is la academically equal to cal, i'd like to know? they're similar, but in almost every respect academically, cal has the edge. cal wins two-thirds of the cross-admit battles against LA, btw.

some people don't like socal. and don't like globs of makeup oozing down girls' faces. or breathing in killer smog or living in the city with the worst homeless problem in america (berkeley has hobos, but LA has some seeeerious problems with homelessness). but really, if you're going to that biased and stereotype cal, why don't i stereotype LA for you? in which case, i'll just sum it up as eloquently as aa did: cal rapes LA.

lol, i was just kidding....apparently didn't come through

as for UCLA vs Cal, this topic has been discussed ad nauseum. both schools have strengths and both have weaknesses. it really depends on what you want to do post-grad (banking: go to Cal; med: either; law: either....). Also, it depends if you like the socal "culture" or the norcal one.

several hundreds of applicants turn down Cal for other schools every year because Cal isn't perfect. several thousands attend Cal because it IS a world-class university. im sure some of those hundreds who turn down Cal regret it, but im also sure that an equal percentage who attend Cal regret turning down other schools. The grass is always greener on the other side, so there's no point brooding over what could have been.

cenrie, this is a forum for students who passed up Berkeley in favor of UCLA, ON the UCLA forum. If there weren't at least a little bias on the page, I would be concerned about everyone's decision in picking this school.

If we want to go with a national ranking of universities, then yes, I concede that Cal is superior to LA. However, as bruinboy well put, regret runs both ways.

Well then I guess some people are stupid. I, like many others, happen to enjoy pleasant weather and an abundance of beautiful girls.

I'd pick UCLA over Cal in a second.

I didn't apply to UCLA because I want to get out of SoCal, but after analyzing both and being accepted at Cal, I realized that UCLA is soooo sick and has so much more to offer, which previous posters on this thread already stated.

Yeah, I agree UCLA for undergrad and Cal for grad. That's the best combo. Hopefully, i will get to do that.
For now, I'm looking forward to UCLA....a lot

The news about record breaking temp at socal is worrying me though. I am all for great weather, but can't bear too much heat.

I chose UCLA because my husband has a good job here, our families are here (including my elderly grandparents who I see on a weekly basis), and because the theory/practice ratio for my major is closer to what I'm seeking. Cal would actually be the better fit for me in terms of temperament and it pains me to have had to make this choice. If I were still a teenager I would definitely have chosen Cal, but then again when I was a teenager I was only interested in learning and couldn't stomach the sacrifices you have to make to get a degree.
