You are the only person who knows!!!!!! No one on these boards knows your situation or how you handle stress or how much time you have! Make the decision yourself instead of asking advice from people who are really in no position to advise you.

And "Is this possible?????"

Of course it's possible. I'm fairly certain that there are no documented cases of "Death by AP". But give us a break and stop trying to impress everyone by asking if your 15-course load is too much. No one ______ cares.

Sincerely,
Someone who has already graduated and realizes in retrospect how silly this all is

PS. If you really need advice talk to your counselor, that's his or her job. Or a parent. Or a friend. Or a teacher. Or at least someone who knows you.

Good post. I’m going to be a senior but I see these younger kids asking whether 3-7 AP’s is too much and I just think back to how silly questions like that are.

Do what you feel you can do. Nobody knows yourself better than you.

lol, apparently you do! That said, I agree wholeheartedly with your post. It’s time someone started a thread for this. Really, the only answers I ever give to questions about schedule difficulty is “it depends.” Because it really does. Not only because each person has his/her own study habits and ability, but because school workloads differ hugely between high schools. This really should be stickied.

Then who cares about everything else that’s on CC?

CC, on the whole, is basically for neurotic, over-achievers who like to ask these types of questions. Without stupid threads regarding these types of things, CC would not exist.

The other thing that needs to be addressed is that we have NO idea how difficult a course may be at your school. A better idea would be to ask people who have already taken it with a given teacher. Other than that, the whole “is this schedule hard enough?” BS is driven by an annoyingly insecure, or possibly just naive, sense of condescension. Because, as you well know, it’s only hard enough if other CCers marvel in your glory and your ability to take 50 AP courses. Trust me, even if your schedule is “hard enough,” that doesn’t guarantee you’ll do well in your classes or even on the tests which are arguably more important in retrospect.

“Without stupid threads regarding these types of things, CC would not exist.”

Oh, and I would like to add that not only are the “is this schedule too hard?” threads quite annoying but the “Should I self-study for __________?” threads quite annoying too.

Again, we can’t give good advice to strangers. That is an established fact.

Why would you start a thread for something like this? This will only discourage people from even thinking about taking some APs. Everyone on CC is similar in a way; somewhat overachieving, has a rigorous schedule, trying to get into top schools, while still maintaining their EC’s. They need to hear the experiences of others in the past (who may have been in similar academic/EC situations). They can ask their friends and parents, but chances are that they were nowhere near as willing to challenge themselves. So you can see that this site is a Godsend for many. And what was the point of making this thread if it will be on page 8-9 in a couple of weeks. This won’t get stickied since it will discourage many posters. Maybe someone should just make a thread for people who want opinions and inputs on their schedules. Call it “The OFFICIAL Schedule Opinions/Suggestions Thread”

I think the “Just Do It!” approach is best. I mean I seen people take on 6 APs and I seen people who can barely manage two.

I agree with the OP that only you can be the judge of what you can take on. If you’re taking that many APs in the first place, then you can probably handle it.

What are you talking about, “discouraging” them? Usually when people ask, it’s because they want to know if they’re “good enough” and if HYP will want a transcript garnished with 30 AP classes. It seems like they’re asking whether their schedules are actually “hard enough.” They obviously know they’re going to take the classes, they just want to know if they should do more because apparently on CC if you don’t have the most, you don’t get into your dream colleges. There’s more to life than freaking AP classes–hopefully they learn this after they graduate.

^^^Discourage?? People should be reminded that this is an internet forum and shouldn’t be discouraged just because some guy discouraged you on the internet.

This thread should defintely be stickied.

I’m pretty sure there are a billion threads on “How many AP’s should I take” or “Should I self-study _______?” so I don’t see why people can’t just go search.

I personally think that people start these threads to boost self-esteem…

I totally agree with tan2007.

My final answer to those people: Go get a life, people. Assuming you want to become a doctor (I mean, why else would you take 10 AP classes?), you’ll be studying for the next 10 years of your life so enjoy life while you still can.
