I've been looking around and people have been saying the same thing : " Send in more info"...

But How would I go about that? I wouldn't just send it to the school or something, that would be completely random.

Suggestions?

But How would I go about that? I wouldn't just send it to the school or something, that would be completely random.

Suggestions?

I’d like an answer to this question as well :/

First,

Tell them you are still interested and they are your top choice. Are you doing any competitions (debate, sports, music, etc.)? Did you rush into a burning building and save a kitten? Were you featured in the paper?

Etc.

What I’m saying is - the letters suggest you send any additional information (things you might have forgotten to mention, awards, a mid-semester grade report, etc.) Most waiting lists aren’t ranked. So squeaky wheels (polite squeaky wheels) might give you an edge even if it’s just to say “I’m hear and I still want you.”

However - a warning: some things aren’t in your control. If the school is trying to balance their class and someone with a trait or skill they wanted turns them down, they may look for a similar candidate on the waiting list and that person would have the edge.

What school’s wait list are you on, Rad?

Call the person who interviewed you. Express your interest to them. Then, if there is anything else you can send, do so. Send a hand written letter to them, explaining why the school is your first choice.
Did you do a winter sport or EC with some results that were not available in the application?
Do you have some interesting teacher comments on your report card to share (remember, most “transcripts” only contain grades, not comments).
Did you do something special over a school vacation?
Anything like that is good to share.

Rad…you are talking about fa though, right? You can definitely have yourself and your parents send a letter reinforcing why you truly want to attend that particular school and highlighting your reasons why you were admitted to the school in the first place. However, the chance of getting in with almost full aid is close to none. The year this happened to my son, they did tell me he was #1 on the fa wait list, but not to hold my breath. They did encourage us to reapply, though, and everything went well the second time around.

Are you applying as a new freshman or a repeater? Because if you are a new freshman, you are young and I really think it’s better to go in as a freshman, but a year older.

i was w/l @ williston and had to w/l @ NMH for FA.
I’m applying for freshman(new). I would re apply next year for 9th but I <3 the 2014 and i don’t really want to spend that much time in HS :P

How would I phrase a letter like that though?
Would sending in 2nd term scores be a good idea? I did really horrible the first term and those are the only grades they got.

Yes - second term scores - especially if they rose above first term would help.

Dear …

Thank you for considering me as a potential freshman at NMH (spell it out). NMH is my top choice for boarding school and I’m confident I will exceed your expectations as a student.

(add a short sentence or two - no more - about why NMH is your first choice for schools - be specific about something they do that blows you away.)

I’d like to keep my application up to date in the event that Financial Aid becomes available. Enclosed please find my current grade report for your records.

I look forward to joining the NMH class of 2014. Best wishes…Rad in Plaid

That’s a straw man. You and others from CC can clean it up or add stuff to it. Short and sweet is good.

bumpbumpbump :)

best way to get off the waiting list… take back ur fa application.
im sorry… but im like not even exaggeration, many schools are in a very tight economical situation.

well that would be impossible unfortunately i need Full FA and there’s no way I could possibly pay the whole thing. If I could I would’ve just gone to NMH.

aaah rad I’m in the same situation as you’re in ):
waitlisted with FA. aaaaahdfhdsjksndsd

Do they actually read the letters they get? Like…all of them so quickly…

Here’s the deal - a lot of kids apply to the same cluster of schools and at the interview they all say THAT school is their top choice. But it’s a lie right? So if you are waitlisted, the schools don’t have a list of who accepted you and who rejected you. So how are they supposed to know you are interested if you don’t send a short letter saying so?

So short and sweet. If there is a spot - it will help.

Paula…NMH reads theirs. They called us and wrote when they received ours.

when i write the letter should i include who i am? will they remember me or not? i mean i will write my name but do i need to explain that i got waitlisted and such? my letter is about a page long as of right now

^^that’s cuz NMH is col! ;)

and orange- i was accepted w/o FA so i w/l-ed

I wrote a letter, and it started: Hi, this is wicked crazy, a waitlisted applicant for the freshman class. Or something like that. They have a ton of people and I don’t see why it would hurt to remind them.

awww watch mine get lost in the mail

Mine is really short, but to the point I guess…
