To how many National Merit schools did you/your senior apply?

@celesteroberts Yes UIowa sent my S a letter the mail saying if he applied he would get this particular scholarship…I’ve never been to their website…I can go back and look and see if the scholarship had a name if you are really interested…my S had high test scores and other hooks, so it’s possible there was more to it than just NMSF (NMF hasn’t come out yet).

Just if they have something like that for NMF, it would be good to add to the scholarship list, that’s all. Not interested for my S, thanks. Those scholarship offers always say ‘contingent upon being named NMF and name us first choice school’, etc.

My son applied to 2: Central FL (full ride) and Northeastern ($30K/year), both guaranteed. We’ll be visiting UCF soon to check it out and he’s corresponding with current NM scholars there to learn more–UCF honors college is a real setting point, and FL climate is a bonus. On CC I learned of many other schools that don’t have NM scholarships but do offer very large merit scholarships based on grades and test scores, and that has generated more options, including full tuition at Pitt and nearly full at Miami U of Ohio.

@BLUEJAY1518‌ and @Rdtsmith‌ and @celesteroberts‌ and others…have you visited Bama yet?

@mom2collegekids‌ - Yes! We have visited twice. We have paid the enrollment fee and the housing fee. We want him in the honors dorms. We are still waiting to see what TCU offers but we are pretty sure they won’t be able to offer him what Alabama is offering him. So it is pretty much ROLL TIDE!

Roll Tide!!

DS applied to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, New Mexico, and Nebraska as well as a couple non-NMF schools. Two of the NMF schools are #1 and #2 on his list at the moment or, more accurately as far as I can tell, tied at #1.

Older D attends Arizona State on NMF scholarship. She also applied to Alabama and Oklahoma.

@STEMFamily, do you mean UNM or NMSU when you say New Mexico?

@albert69 UNM but basically only as emergency backup as DS really doesn’t want to stay so close to home but does prefer it to NMSU.

Interesting. NMSU is actually my second choice.

D applied to FSU, UF and UCF as well as Alabama. Fingers crossed she will like one of them. Lots of great choices!

S applied UF, UCF and UMiami. Love that Fl Incentive Scholarship!

DS applied to one full-tuition safety and a number a half-tuition schools. He’s very lucky to already have some attractive birds in the hand.

Thank you! @3boystogo‌

She applied to OU, OSU, ASU and Ole Miss. Ole Miss was the runaway favorite due to their Chinese Flagship program. She didn’t apply to any Ivy League schools. She wasn’t interested and I wasn’t planning on spending any money there. I have to say that I absolutely loved OU’s Honors College and they were incredible in their efforts to attract her. Too bad they do not have a Chinese Flagship program.

Daughter has applied to Oklahoma, Alabama, Fordham and Drexel. Have only seen Oklahoma so far but loved it! Also a few Other schools not NM as well.

My D has applied to Kentucky, Oklahoma, UT-Dallas, and Evansville as well as others than do not give full ride to NMF.

@mom2collegekids‌ Yes my S will be there this weekend for Capstone Scholars Day at UA! I’m excited for him. It’s the last school on his list he’s visiting!

@Rdtsmith‌ Let me know how it goes.
