To Past/Current Stanford Students...

What were your stats? SAT/ACT scores, GPA, Class Rank, EC's, Outstanding Essay, Awards, Athletics, other hooks?

i went through this a whole [gasp] two years ago...and i will HONESTLY say that stats aren't everything. I will admit to you, that you need to be decent (i.e. mins. >1300, 3.7uw), unless you've done something extraordinarily unique (and I do mean extraordinarily unique, not winning at Int'l Science Fair or anything like that). With those stats, you still will need to do something amazing, though. Ok, anyway, not sure if I made too much sense up there:

My general stats:
1500 SAT I
800 SAT II Writing
800 SAT II Math IIC
760 SAT II Chem
740 SAT II Bio

3.94 uw GPA (school didn't weight- my UC GPA was 4.5#)
No Rank

I did biomedical research for four years, intel sts, siemens-westinghouse semifinalist, isef finalist, state science fair 1st place winner, piano performance abroad, hospital volunteering, founder/president of biomedical science interest group (hs club), religious club (Pres. senior year) Those are what stand out to me off the top of my head.

You can ask more specifically, if you want.

SAT I: 1490
SAT II Writing: 720
SAT II Math 2: 800
SAT II Physics: 760
SAT II World History: 750

GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.5 W
Rank: Top 0.25 %

No serious athletics or music, a couple of clubs, research but nothing like intel or siemens-westinghouse, Academic Decathlon was my "dedication" i guess, won several top state awards, usual volunteering, nothing major though

SAT: 1530
SAT II's: 800 Writing, 790 Math 2c, 790 World History
GPA: 3.95w, 4.85w
Rank: 2/490

ooh I forgot the other stuff: a lot of political activism, jsa, debate, tutoring, camp counselor, some minor academic awards, a solid amount of leadership

SAT:1330
SATII
Writing:520
Math:680
US History:650
GPA
UW: 3.95
W:4.0
So i pretty much prove that you can get in with low SAT scores. However, I am somewhat different than most others. Shall I say "Unique."

--SATs: 1530: 800 Math, 730 Verbal...800 IIC, 800 Writing, 800 Chemistry
--GPA: 3.96 UW (2 B's)
--Rank: school doesn't rank...just says i'm "top decile"...but yeah, 3 valedictorians (0 B's), couple salutatorians (1 B)...and then me
--ECs: i was on the science olympiad b team for 3 years, and the best i did was a 3rd place medal at regional competition once. (actually...twice...once was in 12th grade, though...so stanford didnt know about that)...uhmmm what else...i was VP of my school's key club...co-events coordinator the year before...

so as you can see, i had nothing spectacular. i laugh everytime someone says "do something amazing on the national/state level" cuz hahaha i didnt even have anything amazing on the county level. and i'm obviously not perfect academically, so maybe my essays did it?

What made you unique?

hahaha i guess my hook was luck.

but in all seriousness...i cant imagine it being anything else other than my essays...they were all pretty random, but i guess that just means they really represented me well ... hahaha. how random, you ask? i wrote about.....key club, how shy i was, how lame i was (/am), curious george, me flooding my bathroom, and...getting chased by orphans wielding water guns in tijuana...

yeah, so like i said...luck.

haha no, i don't think that you got in randomly, your stats are damn good, and your school probably has good placement for at least its top students, like mine does, but i was asking bade9

oops. oh well.

I guess my personal experiences growing up is unique. I can say that no one else has experienced some of the things I have. No one. It's kind of hard to talk about it.

1520(800M/720V); 800W; 760M2C; 800 Span.
6.9 / 7 (Full IB Diploma Program) --> Valedictorian
MVP Track and Field + XC; numerous school records
Editor of school paper (Thats right, I ONLY did 3 ECs)
100+ CS hours
Essays and Recs were pretty good
Oh, and I own my own company (we build fences...how's that for random?)
