A lot of us CC'ers are in the top or second decile of our class, worrying about whether or not we're going to get into <really selective="" college="">. I was talking to a friend the other day, and here's the conversation:</really>

Him: "So you take the [October] SATs?"
Me: "Yeah"
Him: "Yeah, I did too, but I have to take them again."
Me: "Aw man, that sucks. Why?"
Him: "Well, I need to get a 900 to play NCAA sports."
Me: "Oh man, that really blows. It was probably just a fluke."
Him: "Yeah, I can't believe I messed up both times."

Wow... well that does put things in perspective. A less dramatic perspective-putter for me was hearing people in the library look up college websites and statistics.
"Holy crap!!! The middle 50% for verbal here is 580 to 640!!! That's insane!!!" "How do so many people score that high?!" Meanwhile, I'm sitting a few seats away wishing that was the middle 50 at my schools...

But that's why most of us CCers worry and stress out! We're on a completely different playing field!

yeah people here are crazy...they need to get perspective on what is really important in life. sure college is important, but its not everything. practically nothing when deciding your happiness.

you people are the ones i imagine growing up as the uptight parents in a upper middle class family, who force their kid to practice tennis 5 times a week, study for SAT's daily from 9th grade up, and stress out over B+'s. cmon, is that anyway to enjoy life!!? be a little more laid back!

it's fine to be concerned about your future, but obsession is never a good thing.

this is going out mostly to the people who are unhappy with SAT scores 2300+.

if you always obsess on being the best and feeding an ego, you can only be disappointed.

Lol the 900 was out of CR + M for NCAA sports. Emperor: I know, I hear a lot of kids say like "I got a 1500!" and I'm thinking "woah! awesome" then I realize they meant the new SATs haha.

believe it or not, the average score out of 1600 is about 1000..about 1500/2400 for the new one

and believe it or not alot of people never study for the SAT...that must be a pretty amazing fact for some peope who have studied since they were toddlers

Yeah, this site is like the top 0.1% of college applicants, so there's no need to be discouraged by the amazing resumes here (well, of the truthfrul people).

lol i have a friend who got like 1200ish on new. and she thinks the 1800-2000 people are geniuses~! and she's not that bad at school, either... yep, we're all nuts.

'Yeah, this site is like the top 0.1% of college applicants, so there's no need to be discouraged by the amazing resumes here (well, of the truthfrul people)."

It's not the amazing resumes that discourage me, its the ones with very good resumes that get rejected that discourage me.

If you go over to the Parent's Forum, you will see a number of their kid's acceptances to schools that are not on the top of the heap. I suspect there are a number of students here, posting or lurking, who have average to very good scores but who have not scored in the stratosphere. Seems to me after a fairly long time on CC that the emphasis is not as much Ivy as you might think. Good luck to all!
