I work at a sporting goods store in my college town and do not necessarily love it. It isn’t digging ditches in the heat or anything, but it does get stressful with how much time it takes of mine and the unstable scheduling times. Dates can get changed on a whim and my availability that I have set is hardly ever acknowledged. I got another job on campus working in the fitness center, which also correlates to what I possibly want to do career-wise, but the only problem is that it won’t allow me to work as much as the retail job. BUT, I also might prefer to have more time to myself to study and pursue outside interests. At my retail job I work around 30 hours a week and don’t really struggle financially, but at my campus job I work a base of 19, but have the ability to pick up other shifts if people drop them often enough. Any thoughts?
Can you support yourself financially on 19 hours a week at the fitness center?
I think it all depends on how much you need the money. If you aren’t in dire need, then it sounds like the 19 hours a week would work best for you since you already feel stressed with the retail job. If you do need the money, though, then you should figure out exactly how much you need and fix your schedule accordingly.
