Just curious about whether or not I should study and retake the SAT. I received a 2020 composite, 600 critical reading, 770 math, and 650 writing. I know my weak points (vocab and the essay) and feel like I could fix them with some studying. The only thing holding me back from taking it again is that I got a 35 ACT. My main question is would it help me if I did well on both or will the 35 ACT be enough? Any comments are much appreciated.

Stick with the ACT. Concordance charts tell us that a 35 ACT is roughly equivalent to a 2340 SAT. Say you study really hard and hike up your CR and W scores by 100 each: that’s a 2220 (assuming you score another 770 on M), which converts to a 33 or 34 ACT. A 35 is very competitive at any college, and while a 2200 will by no means count you out in and of itself anywhere, at the best colleges it will put you more toward the middle of the pack in terms of standardized tests. Most applicants only send one, you will by no means be looked down upon for doing so.

That’s what I wanted to hear. But can I send in SAT II’s without the SAT I? After some reading around it sounds like some colleges require the SAT I if you want to send in SAT II’s.

many of my classmates like ACT better (It is an average public school in New York). One boy who used to be in my school got only 1900+ on SAT but 31 on ACT and then got into Cornell University…So, I guess ACT is the right thing for you and I would not worry about the score if I were you!

Okay thanks. Anybody know if I can send ACT and SAT 2 scores? Or can I only send the subject tests if I also send the SAT I?

I’m almost certain you can choose which scores you want the college board to send to schools. You don’t need to send SAT I

Very cool. That makes me feel much better.
