HIgh Score on ACT - Low Score on SAT? What should I do?

Well its my senior year and I have taken both the SAT and ACT once.

I got a 2050 on the SAT, but a 35 on the ACT.

I am retaking both in October, hoping to raise my SAT and maybe get a 36 on the ACT.

But assuming my scores dont improve, should I still send both scores or just my ACT?

Did the ACT include the writing section? If so, I suggest you send only the ACT and don't bother to retake it - a 35 is AWESOME, and a 36 doesn't look much better

Yeah, I took the ACT with writing, however my Guidance Councilor told me it was better to send them both even if my SAT is considerably lower.

Do you think I would look worse if I sent them both?

a 35 is fantastic, a 2050... not so much.
your guidance counselor is an idiot.. don't send both, itll only hurt you.

Wow, I was wondering the same thing. I got a 2040 on the SAT, but a 35 on the ACT. However, I also have an 800 in Math II, 800 in Korean, and 750 in Physics under my belt. If I don't send my SAT score and just my ACT, they won't be able to see my Subject Tests either.

2040 + 800/800/750 vs. just the 35 ACT vs. BOTH?

Ahh, I don't know what to do. Would they look down upon the 2040 (compared to my 35) if I were to send both?

kMz, in your case, id submit both. those are great SAT II scores, and coupled with that ACT score, you'll be very competitive. if you didn't have the SAT II scores, however, I'd advise you only submit the ACT score like 4oh7 here.

I only got a 2040 on the SATs and a 33 on my ACT with two 710s and a 700 on my subject tests... those are high but not THAT high, so im not submitting any SAT stuff. ACT all the way. in summary, submit everything kMz

Send both. The high ACT+SAT II's will stand out.

Send both if the schools you're applying to request SATIIs as well. If not, don't really bother and just send the ACT.

Alright cool, makes sense. Thanks.

This has most likely been addressed before, but why do so many kids do better on the ACT than the SAT? And is it ever the other way around, where they do better on the SAT than the ACT?

In my opinion, I think I did better on the ACT because it was much more straightforward. I didnt prepare for it at all and it just tested my knowledge.

On the other hand, I believe the SAT requires a lot of preparation and practice to get used to their questions, since they tend to be a trickier.

Also the SAT is a lot longer then the ACT, so it may have to do with that.

My D did relatively the same as the OP: 2040 SAT (writing brings her down; she had 1440/1600 on the cr/ma, 600 writing) and a 35/36 on the ACT. But because she scored a math II 770 and a chem 740 on the subject tests, she's sending both SAT and ACT. She's a total math/science kid so she could take the SAT forever and ever but she'll never get the writing score up. She needs time to re-write and re-write and then she writes very well ... but little time and too much pressure ... not so much.

zebes

lets not get crazy, lets look at the situation for what it is... u'd definitely want to send only the act... hello!
