To take the AP Chem Test or Not to?

okay my school got a new chem teacher for ap. They fired him in Oct cause he did nothing and didn't teach then so then we had no teacher. Now we have a teacher who doesn't not understand chemistry at all so again now we're not learning squat. So what would look better to colleges: take the exam and do bad or two not take the exam at all? I plan to explain the situation in my interview and I have letters from the school explaining the situation, but what should I do about the exam?

Wow, a similar thing happened to me (though I guess I was a bit more fortunate).. My chem teacher, who was awesome, had to leave in Jan. and we got this awful sub for the rest of the year. I ended up self-studying for the AP Test using the textbook (Zumdahl). I suggest taking the exam only if you think you can do well (do you have time to study for it on your own?). If not, it'd just be a waste of time and money.

you are a senior, right? if you are not prone to senioritis and is willing to self-study, i suggest you take the test and get the college credit. chem in college is probably gonna be a lot harder.

I'm actually a junior, so unfornately colleges will definitely see this. I have tried reading the textbook but I find it way over my head at times and I absolutely hate the format (my honors chem txtbk was so much nicer). Any suggestions on how to teach myself? I was thinking of getting a tutor, but unfornately I would probably need a tutor for more than just and hour or two a week ...probably more like 7-10 hours per week to cover everything, because my ap chem class is more like a study, so we learn nothing. thanks for the help

Could you possibly get a copy of your honors chem book or another chem book (maybe from a library)?

get the prep books for reference whenever you dont know something in ur textbook. do the problems at the end of chapters if u have the zumdahl book. and take plenty of ap practice tests from previous yrs.

If your school pays for the test (or if you are willing to waste the money yourself) you could just cancel your scores depending on how you felt you did on the test compared to some of the practice tests you took.

who doesn't not understand chemistry <--- this double negative really doesn't not bother me

go get a prep book. and practice ap problems. i don't learn much from my own teacher anyways. the only thing i learn from the class is from doing the work and reviewing my mistakes on test. his lectures aren't worth much. they are just the gist of the text
