To the first year premeds.

First year premeds,

How was your fall quarter, academically-wise? You still think you got what it takes to be a premed?

Personally:
- Chem 14A kicked me to the ground a bit. Time to work my butt off next quarter.
- I still consider myself "premed" for now, but I'm also considering other health related fields. The competition and weeding-out process is a lot fiercer than I thought.
- Math 3A was fine, and GEs of course, are easier in comparison.

here’s an illustration i made for you that pretty much sums up everything:

(ಠ_ಠ)
…

most “first year premeds” are not premeds after their first year. I can’t blame them!

“prelaw” (actually, no such thing) is much easier, but you have to be good at reading and writing.

lol chem 14a stuff will never escape you! titrations will appear everywhere.

And they say the 14 series is easier.

I’m still in mourning -.-

i got my A in 14a. im happy.

i love the 14 series so far. only 14d left…easy A.

^ agreed. 14b should be easy too.

Same for “premed”… all it means is “I think I’m going to apply to med school at some point in the future”

14b is much more interesting. a little bit harder, though…i failed the first quiz due to overconfidence/not studying, but got it replaced with the green book. got a B+ on the midterm and clutched the final for an A in the class. god i miss lavelle. loved him.

ok well i suck but im still premed, i dropped chem 14a, got a C in math3a(dude i know…) and comm 10 a C freaking plus! i was expecting at least a B…going to talk to the ta about that…fyi do not take comm 10 if you do not want to be a comm major! my orientation counselor screwed me over on that one. thankfully i had taken classes during the summer and my gpas going way up next quarter thanks to biomed

everyone knows about comm 10 lmao.

Does lavelle’s course reader change from year to year ? if not i might just buy last year’s course reader from someone

so how was chem 14a? i’m taking it winter '10 and wanted some feedback please :)

chem 14a is impossible. give up medicine and become a preschool teacher while you can!

dont listen to this guy, chem 14a isnt bad at all. just do a lot of hw problem and it should be fine. if you’ve taken ap chem before it helps too…

I don’t know about chem 14A, but I was told the same advice for chem 20A regarding AP chem. I only took chemistry honors in high school and understood the material and did better in chem 20A than the people who took AP chemistry did.

Ultimately, it’s what YOU can do.

AP Chem was way way different than 20A. AP Chem had a lot more math whereas Chem 20A was much more conceptual. There was very little overlap.

Can’t speak for 14A.
