To the Likelies.....

Even though I am 95% sure I'm going to Dartmouth, there are still a few schools that, if admitted with a bomb package (bomb is slang for 'great' or 'awesome') I may be forced to really think hard about that particular school. Here are mine.

Stanford
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Duke
Columbia to a lesser extent

Most likely I would still choose Dartmouth over these schools because the D-Plan will allow me to travel abroad multiple times, which is the thing I want to do most in college (Besides get laid with many Dartmouth beauties);)

OKay.... those are all pretty different places. What exactly are you looking for (besides that IR major...)

I want ....

a. Ample study abroad opportunities
b. Good financial aid
c. Strong Intramural program
d.Small School
e. Int Relations would be nice......:)
f. Schools with good records as far as getting their kids into the best grad schools. This is a given at all of the schools I've mentioned.

I have no doubts about the high quality of education I will recieve at any of these schools, so I'm now looking pass that.

d. Small School: Dartmouth is your place.

Man i'm kind of sleepy.....talk to you guys tomorrow.

if you're looking at IR , I'm suprised that Tufts or Georgetown are not on your list.

As for f), you're better off womewhere where you are smarter than most pf the othr students. Just like the undergrad thing...many college counselors tell families to move out of "feeder" towns and into blue collar towns where they can be valedictorians, vs. simply "top 20%".

Depends. As a D alum I can tell you the vast majority of my friends are at top grad schools. King is looking at top schools and Dartmouth does amazingly well for grad placement. In business, even being 50 percentile at Dartmouth is a path to a top 10 grad school.

Top 20% (roughly a 3.7) is a path to pretty much a top 5 or ten school in any field, as long as test scores are also up there.

Keep talking Slipper....keep talking!

don't go to stanford, its a junior college. lol.

I'm thinking hard about Yale and Dartmouth, but the latters got a pretty good lead.
Princeton was up there, until everyone that knew someone that went there also had a horror story about another princeton person that is insane.
If I got into Wharton, where a lot of my LEAD friends are going, I'll think of that possibly, but I don't want to just do business.

Yeah, I have a list of other schools I am still keeping in consideration, though D is my first choice.

Notre Dame
Harvard
Yale

Pretty much in that order. My desire to attend Yale has gradually diminished over the past few months, but I would still be very psyched about getting into Harvard or ND.

One other thing: does a "likely" letter mean that you have (barring something like a criminal conviction or a severe onset of senioritis) been accepted, or simply is an indication that you stand a good chance of getting in? Do you know of anyone who has gotten a likely letter to Dartmouth or elsewhere and has been ultimately turned down (excepting the conditions mentioned above)?

-Chris

You got a likely letter , you have unofficially been admitted so expect your admission package on April 1.

waiting for the dartmouth letter after getting the likely feels kind of like waiting for christmas.
my brothers and sisters (all five of us) used to wait at the top of the stairs, waiting and waiting for it to finally turn seven oclock. time moved so slowly, knowing what was waiting downstairs, but not knowing exactly what it was... just something good.

by the way, its finals week, and i've gotten five hours of sleep in three days.

i think i'm getting close to the legally insane bit.

Skyandsea, you have finals already?! When does school get out for you? (and that's a perfect analogy, by the way)

Right now, the only school I'd really consider over Dartmouth is Princeton. I also applied to Vandy, UVa, UMich, and Cornell... but meh.

we're on a trimester system (hmm... they kind of line up with dartmouths... fate?), so we're finishing winter term exams right now.
its nice because it means senior spring (from decision letters onward) is also the start of spring term. so we have an entire grading period to slack off for.

so i'm off for colorado right now. its a good way to forget about the letters for two whole weeks.
hopefully i'll be able to find computers, but my grandparents and the internet aren't exactly friends...

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Handsonthedash....

I'm not sure if you were kidding about Stanford, but I hope so.
Stanford is a University. The reason people think it's a junior college
is because the real name is 'Leland Stanford Junior University'.
They fail to notice that Leland Stanford Senior named it after his son,
Leland Stanford Junior.

If you were kidding... I'm real dumb.

I think he was kidding ... lol ...

Joey

hahaha no hyp, thats what i meant. Don't feel dumb.
We Cal fans don't like Stanford, so thats our main argument against their existence. I love Big Game time. I remember my grandpa taking me to Big Game every year. Too bad I hate Berkeley (the town). I have huge ties to that school.
