As a current junior (class of 2017), When I heard that the SAT format was changing last year, I decided to completely disregard both the old & new SAT. I was fully planning to only take the ACT. But today after taking the PSAT, I think I’ve changed my mind.
Although not too much has changed, the test WAS easier than last year (especially coming from someone who HATES vocabulary), and I like the new format. So now I’m thinking of taking the new SAT either this spring or next fall.
Does anyone else feel the same? Love or hate the new format? Neutral?
Like this format better because it’s basically the act
Also kinda worried because I feel everyone did pretty well so the cutoff score will be high
only difficult section was the reading which was a lot more vague than the act reading
I agree that the cutoff will be higher this year because of its relative easiness. Although, some of my friends found it kinda hard…lets hope enough people find it kinda hard that the cutoff is lowered
I’m hoping that College Board purposely keeps the cutoff low to show that the test got easier. This would attract future customers and potentially let them regain their lead over ACT. Wishful thinking though
They don’t want more NMFs. They will likely put the number wherever they need to in order to maintain that number. And the ACT lead has a lot to do with state legislatures mandating that seniors in their state take the ACT – smart lobbying & marketing move on ACT’s part, of course.
I thought it was super easy except for the last couple of math problems. I think I got about 90% correct on the CR and W portions, and maybe 75% for each of the math portions.
Both math sections were easy for me. I don’t know if the writing will be a hit or miss situation. My teachers usually only focus on grammar when we have a state writing exam, so I’m not aware of all the rules. I scored a 72 on reading last year, but this year’s literature and historical sections made me weep. I’m glad I have another year to prepare and hopefully get NMS.
