Is it me or is the new PSAT easier?

So I took the redesigned PSAT and got 6 wrong in reading, 3 wrong in the writing section, and 1 wrong in math. Do you all think that these scores are sufficient for NMS in il?

Since NMS chooses the top students from each state, it’s impossible to tell because we have no idea at this point what the other students will score. In NY, I don’t think it wouldn’t have made it on the old PSAT (though maybe it would; it would be close). But then NY tends to have high cutoffs.

Until we have a little bit of historical data with the new test, we’re not going to be able to make any kind of predictions. This is unfortunate for the high school class of 2017 :frowning: , of which my DS is a member.

@ILDocter If you also took the new sat part of it, was the psat easier than the sat or were they about the same?

@redios I found the writing and math sections very doable but the reading section was impossible…

@ILDocter i just took it today and i missed a decent amount of questions. How did you practice for it?

@reDIOS I’ve been practicing standardized testing since the seventh grade and have not really improved my ACT scores very much (low 30s). My worst section is reading, by far, and despite speed reading and reading non-fiction everyday, I still did very bad on the PSAT reading test (-8 now that I finished the test). For math, trig is sufficient, and very easy to get an 800 (I did on the practice test) since it isn’t very difficult. Writing I got -3, which is ok…I think that this section is all practice, but easy to improve all I know is that vocab is relatively useless (other than context questions), so to study improve comprehension and grammar. I guess that to improve you might want to just study using ACT books since they are closer aligned to the new SAT than the old SAT books (my opinion).
