Yale,
I requested a paper copy of your rejection letter, and instead of burning it, I've decided to keep it. I'm going to take it with me to Duke or wherever else I choose to go. It'll be with me as I protect my 3.9 GPA...as I score a 179 on the LSAT...as I bag internship after internship...it'll be right there.

Then, I'm going to apply to law school. Of course, I'll apply to Yale; why would you even ask? Ah, but the tide will have turned, my friends. When your law school admissions committee accepts me and begs me to come, I'll take out this rejection letter. I'll take it, and I'll mail it to your office with a nice, yellow sticky note on the front that says: "Thanks, but no thanks. Look who's laughing now."

Good luck educating this generation's George W. Bush.

It’s going to be okay. Why don’t you make yourself some hot cocoa, read some CC posts about how the sun shines equally bright at every college and drink the ‘it’s about who you are, not where you go’ panacea.

Hookem, I like your attitude. Good way to think about it.
Nick, sorry, but you sound a little pretentious. It’s great that you got in, and I mean that, but you don’t have to talk down to the rest of us. Just saying.

Nick, you’ll be working for me in approximately 15 years. Wait, scratch that. You’ll want to work for me, but I’ll tell you to get out of my office with that pompous, entitled attitude of yours.

Hookem, you’ve sounded pompous and entitled more than a few times yourself (i.e. WUSTL boards.) Although I will say, I’ve always hated Nick017. He’s been a jack*** from day 1…

Hey, why don’t we all calm down a bit here?

Despite Nick017’s blatant duchebaggery, what he is saying is true. What matters truly is what you do, not where you do it. If you want to use Yale’s decision as motivation, then great–just don’t denigrate them or other people.

This is a less complicated version of the spurned lover who carries a photo of his ex in his wallet for a decade after high school. Let go, for safety’s sake, and move on. Success is in your future and it is not, nor was it ever, contingent on ONE school accepting you.

the people who get into yale have, for the most part, wasted their childhood attempting to get into a marginally better college than wherever you’re going. you may feel like you need to get revenge on yale by sending back your rejection letter, but when you’re fighting against losers who have sacrificed fun and friends for thousands of hours of studying and extracurriculars, you’ve effectively already won.

Yeah… I think all he meant is that he is going to make the best of his experience at Duke - he doesn’t need Yale’s help to be successful! Nor do any of us.

To build on Eisenhower’s latest post:
I feel like Yale is pretty good at picking those who have real passion for learning, as opposed to the obsessive, socially deprived nerds you guys are describing.
I’m nothing extraordinary, really, but what I believe got me into Yale was my love of knowledge, which exudes both in my pretty solid social life and my academic career.
Also, I didn’t even consider a school other than UMich until late October/early November.
Crap, I swear I am not bragging.

Whoa this is just off. I have no idea about other people but I did not do the stuff I did for colleges. My first choice at one point was the university of Texas, I did what i did because I really enjoyed it. When i decided to apply to top colleges it was because a teacher encouraged me to do so I had no intention of applying to these schools, until I saw thier financial aid.

So please don’t sterotype the students who got accepted. We ALL worked hard and some got lucky and some didn’t it really does not matter what college you go to in the long term.

@Hookem, really dude? You got into Duke and you are complaining. Come on Duke is AMAZING and you know it ;)

Whoa guys, lets all take a step back and chill. I got rejected too and trust me, I know how awful it feels. No need to take it out on each other and make this an accepted vs rejected sort of a thing.
Trust me, I’m sure every single one of us worked their @$$ off, whether it be academics, competitions, or other extra curricular activities. A good deal of it is a crap shoot. Like Dbate said, some got lucky and some didn’t.

Just a little blanket statement to all. If you got accepted, congratulations! In all honesty I truly do mean it. Just please be respectful of those who didn’t get in. For those who got rejected, I understand, it can be really hard. Just try your hardest to prevent this from turning into a sour grapes situation.

end rant :)

You guys and gals are the greatest, don’t forget it!

Comeon guys! Remember the magical thread? We were all a family! Some of us got Rejected, Some accepted, some stuck like me in eternal limbo (waitlist), but in the end we’ve all had fun, given it a good shot, and some got lucky and some didn’t. Don’t tear each other down, build each other up! I still love all you guys and thank you for the fun time! :)
