To Those Accepted into Duke:

This may seem like a trivial question, but how many "B"s are considered OK when applying to colleges such as Duke? How many did you guys (those of you accepted to Duke) have in high school? What is a good UW GPA? (Assume that SAT is 2200+, ACT is 34+, and ECs/everything else are solid.)

I had like a 3.9 uw with 2 B's until the end of senior year...
I'm a freshman here now

There's no real formula for how many B's you can get in High School, but I think I had one B going into my the ED decision time. I have no idea what my uw GPA was.

On a side note--Duke cares much more about what classes you are/have taken as oppose to what grades you got in them. Obviously, you can't pull straight B's and expect to get accepted, but just make sure you are taking the most challenging academic route your school has to offer. They love students who challenge themselves.

I think I saw this same thread in another forum.. -___-

same thing. If you're solid, you're solid. Some people with bad grades get in but probably impressed the admissions officers with something or other. I think there are arbitrary factors as well

I had 11 B's. Duke didn't mind.

For final grades, I got 5 Bs in 3 years.

I have no idea of the average, but S wo is currently attending had 15 AP's and mid
2300's for SAT. GPA 5.5...no B's but i don't think that is typical and really I agree with the other posts. You are looked at in the context of the kids you attend school with and the ones who apply that year. A great essay as to why you are a good fit for Duke coupled with good academics is the key. The admissions group kids with similar SAT scores and grades together and then select from the whole picture that they see. S loves it there though grades are no cake walk. Profs no mater what you see on rate my prof dot com are engaging and willing to help outside of class. Classes for th emost part are small and the campus is beautiful. If you do go there your classmates will also be an eclectic mix and facinating people in their own right. Good Luck
