Dima, do you know if Honor Scholarships can be applied to study abroad? If so, can they be applied specifically to spring term? How does this work?

Sottilde, if the "late registration" deadline is past for the May SAT administration, sometimes stand-by testing is available, but it's usually a good idea to contact the local test center ahead of time. Ours sometimes says that on certain dates, they're always maxed out.

If the May testing seems unlikely to happen, it might be wise to contact admissions to ask if the June one will work. Since the date is so early in June, I'm guessing they will say it's all right. But I'd check.

As far as I know, May and June are the only two chances to take any SATs until next October.

Dima, thanks for all of your posts. You have been so helpful.
You are right about crunch time and last minute questions - I'm starting to get very nervous. So, OK, here's the deal - son torn between W & L and Wake. To me, they seem similar except perhaps in size. We went to a local accepted students day for W & L (and are going to the school on the 19th) and we have all grown more and more impressed with W & L. Here are the questions... (I will just list them and if you can help with any, thanks so much...)
1. The Division 3 thing - my son does not necessarily want to play sports, but he wants to watch them. And he is very attracted to the whole Demon Deacons basketball thing at Wake.
2. The smallness of the school - I think it's a great thing; he doesn't want it to feel TOO small.
3. Music - Not sure which school has a better Music dept but we heard that W & L is getting a whole Arts new building - sounds promising.
4. The new president - how will that change things? Better/worse?
5. The surrounding towns - I know little about either Lexington or Winston-Salem, but I would like him to have a good college town.
6. The grading - it seems like both schools have super tough (unfairly tough?) grading. How hard exactly is it to get an A at W & L?

Thanks so much...sorry to fire these questions at you!

Regarding SAT II's - call admissions

Regarding scholarships being applied to study abroad - yes but NOT to spring term abroad as that is an additional price on top of tuition (and thus not covered), it will cover regular fall or winter term study abroad

What I love about being at a small D3 school is that when I go to watch games its not a bunch of recruited athletes supposed to represent me (I go to pro games for that) but my friends playing.

A new state-of-the-art arts and music building is indeed under construction and should be open in the fall

The new president - as he is an alum, the hope is that he will keep things more the way they are and slow down some of the changes at W&L that some people believe are destroying the culture

Not much to say about Lexington - quaint, historical. However the surrounding areas are perfect if you like the outdoors.

The toughness of getting an A depends on where you're coming from - I come from one of the toughest high schools in the country and I have to maintain a GPA to keep my scholarship so Ive been working hard and able to get A's - but other people who have had it easy all their lives do struggle. Its an adjustment for sure. In terms of fairness though, I think that W&L professors are the most fair graders I've ever had - no grade inflation (or deflation) here, you get what you deserve.

Glad if I can help - keep firing away! And I'll likely see some of you at breakfast/lunch on Wednesday

Ok, so I gotta ask... what are those changes?
Dima, thanks for taking the time to help us. Hope we meet you on Weds.

I'm thinking of joining a sorority, but I've heard that fees are expensive (i.e. $3,000 a year) Is this true? That would total 12,000 for all four years, just for social life basically.
