to those of you who got accepted to harvard...

has any of you taken an AP class but decided to not take the exam or cancel the score and still got into harvard?

i've been taking physics for 2 years but had the most horrible teacher. we literally watched all the seasons of mythbuster during honors physics and the big bang theory during AP. not to mention he allowed us to use the formula sheet for every test including the final and he just told us today that we are not allowed to use the formula sheet for the MC part of ap physics...i really feel unprepared and want to cancel the score but is that gonna hurt my application?

You don’t have to send in your score reports when applying; they give a self-reporting option on the Common App.

but doesn’t that hurt my chances? shouldn’t you reeport your score when you apply?

I doubt there’s anyone on this board who’d be able to tell you the answer to that. If it helps, I didn’t report my Math II SAT II to Harvard when I sent in my Common App because it sucked (we’re talking ~50-something percentile here), and yet told my interviewer that I had taken it as one of the 3 mandatory exams as a response to his query of what exams I had taken to satisfy the requirement.

However, I did re-take the exam for a higher - but still admittedly poor - score.

but the SAT II is something else…you didn’t take a class for it. i took physics 2 yrs which is gonna appear in my transcript and if i don’t take the test…did you choose to not take an ap exam that you took a class for? have you ever done that?

also, isn’t it better to report your scores (that’s what my counslor says) when you apply to colleges? like harvard?

If you truly believe it is better to report your score, then do so. If you have reservations, then don’t.

Well, I don’t believe in wasting my time, so no. As the exam is tomorrow, I simply recommend that you study as much as you can in the interim and hope for the best.

But surely after taking a class for two years you’d have a bit of knowledge you could utilize for the test, no? Surprise yourself.

i would love to surprise myself…but literally we didn’t learned anything in that class. but thanx for the advice anyways…

Being a self-starter in this case certainly would’ve helped; at the time of my application, two of the four AP classes I had taken were essentially self-studies, with a failing rate of over 75% and teachers that did not teach. Up until this year, I had gotten a 5 on all my AP exams, something that is bound to change once my AP Calculus exam is graded. :(

It might’ve been easy to self study if I hadn’t taken 6 aps (which btw 2 of em are self studied) and I wasn’t so bounded w/ ecs. I did well on the class tho but wen I took the cb practice, it felt like a giant middle finger in my @nu$ :(

I envy u since high school is almost over for u and u don’t hav to stress over colleges and stuffs.

I’m taking 6 this year as well, and am a leader and member of several major ECs. In a few of my classes, like Biology and Spanish, the teachers are there just to occupy their time; I used the class time to study. In lieu of watching videos and such, you might have wanted to consider doing some practice problems.

Stressing about it on CC won’t help you for the time being. I seriously suggest you log off and start studying.

You need to be a bit more consistent with your posts. In previous posts you are a senior having already completed 6 ap’s in your junior year with one of them being AP Physics with a score of 4 and are taking 4 AP’s your senior year.

In another thread, you are currently taking 5 ap’s (doesn’t match any year) and you are getting a D in calculus and a c in physics.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/833684-everything-wass-okay-till-junior-yr.html#post1063766807</a></p>

Here, you also claim to be currently taking ap physics. How could you have completed them in one thread and be taking them in another?

Smelling ■■■■■. (your choice of language and obsession will overcoming the forum filters adds to this belief)

To others considering not including their self reported AP scores, colleges know that you should have a corresponding score for a class. If a score is omitted, the college will assume the worst ie the possibility of a 1.

Wat r u? Hav u been stalkin this account? True this account was used by a senior who already graduated a yr ago and now I m using cus she introduced me to this website. But why r u so obsessed w/ wat I post?

^Please, darling, use proper English spelling and grammar! My eyes bleed!

^Proof that Harvard doesn’t have snobby people cough cough NOO BLOOD CAME OUT. Not doing a good job of brushing off the untrue harvard stereotype there, dude. Thanks for giving people proof that Harvard supposedly contains full of snobs.

^So now it’s snobby to ask sum1 not 2 type lik this?

I am fully capable of conversing in a wholesome vernacular. However, when someone is asking what they can do to improve their chances of going to any school, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to write in standard English.

If you already know it’s untrue, then why bother commenting on it?

I don’t think AP scores constitute a major part of your application or that leaving a score out would be that detrimental, but then again, I never took that many APs so I’m not familiar with how AP exams factor into admissions. (On the other hand, you usually do better than you think you do on AP tests, so don’t cancel the score so easily!)

Because, as you know, there are people who ■■■■■ on this website for no reason. Ex: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/924350-chances-get-harvard-princeton-yale.html</a> I think we would all love to answer questions if the OP is legitimatey looking for an answer, such as it is in your case, but sometimes it’s hard to tell, so it’s logical that some posters would like to look through posting history before spending their time to reply.

???

One cannot properly draw realistic, generalized conclusions with a sample size of one.

besides that, how was her comment “snobbish” in the first place? I was reading it in a totally different tone.

not obsessed but tired of ■■■■■■ and the post history associated with this account does not support your claim
