To those who got in, what were your SAT/ACT scores?

Hey, it might work! hahahaha

I'm a current Pepperdine Regent's Scholar (class of 2010); my stats were 4.09 GPA, 2030 SAT, and 29 ACT. I'm COC, and ECs included orchestra, marching band, academic decathlon, and quiz bowl.

Both of my younger sisters (also COC) will be starting Pepperdine in the fall. I'm not sure of their SAT scores, but they were average-y, and their GPAs were around 3.5 They were both heavily involved in the music program for all four years, and held leadership positions in the marching band (president and drum captain). They each received the Pepperdine Grant, which actually gave them each more than I got from my scholarship.

Quick question ennaxor, what was your unweighted GPA, if you don't mind me asking? Pepperdine doesn't use weighted GPA's, and even though my weighted GPA is great, my unweighted isn't quite as hot, but not bad, about a 3.9. If I don't get a scholarship to Pepperdine, there is no way in heck I can go. I'm Catholic so no cool COC scholarships for me :/

Pinkpanther- We were told that if you not COC, they go strictly by your UW GPA and ACT or SAT score. For last year, the merit scholarship cutoff for non COC was something like 4.0 GPA and 32 ACT. My D had the 4.0 GPA but only a 31 on the ACT. She got 0 merit aid, and our EFC was about the cost of Pepperdine, so no financial aid either.

Wow! So an unweighted gpa of 4.0 means no B's ever, for 4 years, right? My D had had 2 B's when she applied, (one in Bible as a freshman!).

i got in for fall 08 as a regents scholar (26K annually). i want to say theres about 50 kids who get it but once i start school and find out for sure ill post again.

i am NOT CoC, the CoC scholarship is totally unrelated to the regents scholarship as far as i know.

ACT: 35
GPA: 4.23
APs: 5, 2 college classes w/ local university

ECs: 3 years varsity volleyball, captain
3 years BBBS
3 years club volleyball
2 years girl's athletic association
2 years NHS
Presidential Classroom program in DC
People to People Sports Ambassador program in Holland
Organized and ran a middle school volleyball program
Organized and ran school-wide assembly on youth participation in government
Tutor and Teacher Aide

as far as the essays go, i'm a fairly confident writer so i didn't have too many problems

I will be attending Pepperdine in the fall, my SAT was a 2020 and superscored was a 2070. I didn't take the ACT.

Although scores are important, I think Pepperdine is one of the few schools that truly emphasizes CHARACTER in their admission process. I am not COC, did not qualify for any merit aid, but my pepperdine grant was almost $32K which is the only reason why I can afford to go. I only say this to emphasize the importance in effectively conveying who you are in your essays. This is only based on my own personal experience, but I truly believe that my essays are the main reason why I received such a generous grant from the school.

I would suggest that you have your daughter look at the essay questions that they have on their application and start planning ahead. If she really has her heart set on Pepperdine it will be well worth it in my opinion.

I agree with revolcgirl, I think the essays are important, as well as, your recommendations. D went beyond the standard recs and asked for recs from people she had relationships with through volunteer organizations and church who could paint a bigger picture of D.
I know there is some resentment on this thread toward those who get scholarship because of COC, but I believe that pool of funds comes from COC funds. I am not COC, but rather Catholic and I work for a Catholic school and there are funds that are restricted by donors that can only go to students that are Catholic. They legally cannot be awarded to anyone else under the restricted donation allocation.

With that said, there are other funding sources at Pepperdine and my D also received substantial grants or else we would not have been able to afford Pepperdine.

So therefore, do not give up hope and I am grateful that Pepperdine does not only look at scores, but character, dedication, and hold to their mission to teach to serve, this being a philosophy we also have taught our kids.

I second the essay idea, and the letter of recs, and I feel my D had some great etters and EC's, as she did a lot of church leadersip ( ie only youth in the vestry), and at school ( i.e.Chapel leadership; a pretty big deal at her Christian School, that takes years to work ypur way in to). I also second the idea of a little resentment, although not directed at COC, just because she was dissappointed that she got no merit aid. But this was brief, and as we were waiting to hear she asked "how much money would there have to be for me to have to go there?". So in the end, it turned out for the best...or at least I hope so!

If she has anything near the experience my D did she will be very happy:) Enjoy the summer with her! Are you going to orientation?

JC, if you mean me, she decided to go elsewhere ( not Pepperdine). While Pepp was always in the top two, she was surpirsed to get into her reach, which then jumped up above number one and two! It would have taken a nice chunk of change ( as reflected by her question about how much money it would take) for her to go to Pepp at that point! Alas, she is away this summer being a ( girl scout) camp counselor, so we are getting a crash course in separating!

pinkpanther09 - Sorry, but I have no idea what my unweighted GPA was, I don't think I even kept track of it when I was in high school. It was definitely lower than 3.9 though.

pinkpanther09 I think an unweighted 3.9 is pretty hot!

lol thank you :) I'm pretty sure the adcom said the 10% of applicants get the scholarship, no matter their GPA and SAT/ACT. It's true that is solely based on that, no EC's or anything considered.

Pepperdine has been my dream school since I was a sophomore (going to be a senior), and I would do ANYTHING to get a scholarship. I'm gonna study and retake the SAT's till I dream of vocab words and daydream geometry :P

Though I lack in the number EC's, I'm DEFIANTLY passionate about the ones I am involved in. I've had essay idea's bouncing around in my head since I don't know when.

Oh how I wish there was a magic formula to get into college and a magic bank that gave away money :)

Srinkrap,My D was a girl scout through hs too! Hahaha! She sounds like a great kid and any school will be glad to have her. She will find and forge the path she wants in college! Good luck to both of you!

pinkpanther, Pepperdine is a great dream school, but there are a lot of great schools out there and your wish for a magic formula is prevalent through out this site! Again, your college experience will be what you make it:) Keep working hard!

I'm a Regent entering this fall too!

GPA (unweighted): 3.87
ACT: 34
SAT: N/A
APs: I took 5 in total, and passed all (3+)
I'm a non-COC haha

I had a couple of leadership positions (band section leader, art club vp) and no sports/community service - I think my EC's were pretty boring...

But I did write some intense essays :D

You don't have to apply specifically for Regents - the 26k/yr renewable was a very nice surprise.

My D is interested in Pepperdine, but we would like some merit $. We are not COC, but she will graduate from a COC school...wonder if that will help. She'll be ranked 3 (can't be valedictorian because her 9th grade homeschool grades were not on a 12 point scale-my fault), but she has a 33 ACT.
