i think chicago notices an applicant who feels themselves pulled to the school for a reason other than its prestige. people who have taken the time to visit, meet current students and faculty, and who show a desire to attend chicago INSTEAD OF other schools of similar prestige are the kind of students for which the school searches. i have gotten this impression from conversations with current students, swapping notes with my clever and philosophical adcom, and doing general background research on the school, all of which i did because i wanted very much to attend chicago. honestly, your "stats" are on the low end of chicago students, but do not make your admittance wholly improbable; however, the fact that you copied and pasted the same "application for the respect of other cc'ers" into as many threads as you did shows, much more than your "stats" do, that you are not chicago material. a student that will be happy at chicago is not a prestige whore, but one who has a voracious appetite for knowledge. if you intend to capitalize on your URM standing so that you can attend a prestigious school with only mediocre qualifications, you will not/should not/can not feel welcome at chicago.

Geh, every time I see these types of threads I'm reminded of how pathetic my school's course catalog is...I don't think your chances are very good as of now. Have you asked yourself why you want to attend Chicago? You seem to be very engineering-oriented, did you know that UChicago has no engineering school? I may be wrong in agreeing with indytucker here, but it definitely seems as though you just looked at the USNR top fifteen and pasted your thread in all of those school's forums.

Indytucker: You sound so priggish. How do you know that the OP does not have a Chicago-like thirst for knowledge? He might need to revise his approach and look for a school that is the right fit rather than posting his stats everywhere, but you didn't need to treat him so harshly. I don't think you are qualified to rule on who is Chicago material. Put a little love in your heart.

"Hypocritical." You two have finally nailed my epithet!

Stating that indytucker is in no position to judge UChicago applicants when I myself have at one time judged them is not hypocrisy: it is conceit. Don't let your bitter feelings for me interfere with your abilities to be logical.

I'll stick to wreckless, emotional decision making. You can go on being the cool, calm, and collected rational decision maker that you are without me.

well then you'll have to come visit us at chicago. Once I figure out which one of my future classmates is the notorious briney-whiney, I assure you, it will be on!
PS: chicagonobel, you have my personal invitation to come see us, since you tend to be on my side.
