I was wondering if WM admissions would like to comment on some essays or topics that they found fun to read? We (the applicants) worked our butts off trying to stand out and be orginial and I was wondering if WM admission would share some things they liked about this years pool? i know that the process is still going on, but so far how did u guys like our essays?

Eaglesforlife, that’s a tough question to answer. Very generally speaking we like essays that help us get to know a student better, that tell us something about the student that we didn’t already know, and that have a clear voice to them. Essays that surprise us, shock us, makes us laugh, or move us are usually our favorite.

At this point, because students are already so nervous about the application process and the impedning results, we prefer not to comment on favorite or less-than-favorite topics just because some students may freak out if there particular topic is or isn’t mentioned and that may lead them to believe that the essay alone is the reason for the decision we made (which an essay by itself never would be the sole reason a student is or is not admitted).

However, we do plan on blogging this summer about some of our favorite essays as well as topics students are encouraged to avoid because they are so common

haha completely understandable, cant wait for the post!

Great. We will blog about it in the early summer. We hope it’s helpful to the Class of 2012 as they begin their application essays.
