To you current UCSD students, what were your HS stats?

i think you're doing it correctly, and i think you include your senior year.

if i don't include my senior year, i won't have over 40 semesters, either.

Well that means I get some points... I need all the points I can get... I am majorly lacking in the extracurricular area.... I have like nothing. I get 7426 without that course thing. If I add 250pts (33-39 courses), I get 7676. If I add 500pts (40+ courses), I get 7926. I am looking to get in with a major in engineering as well =.

EDIT: Also, I have only taken the SAT once. I am hoping to raise that score from 1870 to something better. I guess that will earn me a few more points =P.

1950 sat i 690 660 sat ii 3.7w no extra cirriculars, yea good essays

Yea I am going to need some good essays as well... I should get started on those ASAP hahaha!

zero, 7426 with a 1870 SAT?

how do you do it?

changbj, i have only slightly better stats, except for the SATI i'm going to retake.

hopefully i can get in too.

If I get like 8500 pts. will I get in for sure?

Yes. I don't know if they even read or care about the essays.

so do they for sure count your senior year classes in the # of courses you have in HS... b/c if they do then I have 43 (500 pts). We're all trying to get as many pts as possible. The hard thing to figure out is the EC pts. You never know what they consider major or minor. Do you think being co-editor-in-chief for my school's literay magazine is major or minor? Im hoping its major b/c thats 300pts right there....but i do have a lot of other ecs being president or chairman so hopefully it'll even out!!

How do I do it.... well here you go:

GPA 4.28 W --------4280pts
SAT: 1870 // SAT2: math2 = 770, bio-m = 730 --------2696pts
ELC --------300pts
100hrs community service --------150pts

4280 + 2696 + 300 + 150 = 7426
+(250/500) = 7676/7926

THE END!

EDIT: See.... you can see why I am really scared.... I am only getting points from GPA, SAT, ELC, and volunteer hours =[. I am lacking ahhhH!!

i have a lower GPA and no ELC.

the 40+ semesters being worth 500 pts is insane.

slorg, i've heard they read essays for special circumstances, or do they have a space for that in the app?

the essays go in the application. however, since UCSD uses the point system, i don't think they really look at the essays. the other UCs might

"the essays go in the application. however, since UCSD uses the point system, i don't think they really look at the essays. the other UCs might"

WOW are u serious =O!?!?!?

Man I just hope I can get into UCSD... If not I will have to resort to UCI or a CAL Poly (haven't really looked into cal poly yet).

my breakdown is as follows:
3.91 GPA = 3910
SAT 1900+710+630 (retakin SATI and SATII)= 3240 x .8 = 2592
40+ semesters (including senior year) = 500
100+ hrs. community service = 150
Enrichment Programs (sylvan, flex SAT prep, champion SAT prep) = 150-300 pts
Special circumstance (grandmother severely hurt her back and i took care of her at hospital 2-4 times a week + bio teacher died) = 500??

total = 7,802.

i'm also going to be founder of a new club, and maybe i might be varsity tennis team captain so that may also be points. in addition, as i stated above, i'm retaking the SATs for more points.

hopefully everything breaks down that way and i get enough points.

i feel bad for you guys. before i applied i knew NOTHING about this whole point system; i'm kinda glad i didn't too. otherwise i'd be like you guys just adding up my points and trying to find every little way to get points and then recounting and recounting them haha. ignorance is bliss i guess haha.

it seems i was a lot less stressed than you guys, but maybe that was just because i got accepted to UCI beforehand through the ELC thing. i wouldn't have minded going to UCI...

16399, my sister goes to uci, and i wouldn't mind joining her, but i definitely would rather go to ucsd and maybe... gasp ucla.

no chance for ucla, so it's all up to ucsd for me. :)

even when i had just started looking at colleges, it was always all about UCSD for me :). and you never know about UCLA, it could happen. it's eratic; some people who i thought weren't so smart got in :p.

hopefully i can get 200 hours of volunteer work/community service in by applications.

i need more than 100...

yeah ucla is pretty erratic...there were a couple of people at my school that got in and were complete idiots ( in the best way of course)...though Cal seemed to have a more consistent admission rate imho

oh and i had a 4.2 weighted gpa, 2130 on my SAT, varsity wrestling, and 100 hours of community service
