So, basically, my roommate chews tobacco.
It started day one: he said to me "I hope you don't mind if I chew tobacco." I said it was fine because I had never been around chewing tobacco and thought it wouldn't have any effect on the room. I was very wrong because the room smells very bad whenever he chews tobacco in it. Also, its noisy and gross. I tried getting him to stop, even to the point where our RA had to talk with us. After claiming how gross it was, and after him claiming it shouldn't effect me, the RA told us we had to reach an agreement on our own.

I don't really feel I'm obligated to leave because it is also my room, and I can't really "ignore" it (after all every time I breathe I smell it). I suggested he chew it in the lounge next door or outside, but he doesn't want to because he doesn't want others to see him doing it and judge him for it. Eventually, I was able to get him to stop for two weeks (so I know he's not addicted), but then he started up again without evening asking me. When I suggested he just make it a once a week thing so that he can keep doing it, he got huffy, defensive, and wouldn't listen to a thing I said, saying "it is NOT a once a week thing!"

The guy is very rude and doesn't listen to reason well: he's very stubborn. I don't know how to get through to him without him throwing things at me. I don't want to get the residence director involved, so I would love some advice! Should I just deal with it or are there ways to handle it? Thanks!
