Any day is a good day to walk but today is designated #nationalwalkingday!
Share your walking routine or your favorite route or if you like to walk alone or with others or…just challenge yourself to get outside for a mile or more today!
I love walking. Even if I have done other fitness activities in a day I usually also find time to walk. I prefer alone but will sometimes walk with a friend or my husband. Walking time = podcast time for me. My favorite walks are any route that takes me past or along water - which luckily I am able to do not far from my home.
I walked 3.2 miles this morning before work and before sunrise. I’ll walk with a friend later if her schedule allows. And probably do one more of the dog’s walks!
I love to walk! Yesterday I drove to the other side of the planned community I live in and walked 4 miles on streets I had never walked before (have driven there many times). Just wanted to get out and see a change of scenery!
I walk a lot. If I can walk an errand rather than drive, I will. When I walk alone I stick to residential neighborhoods or paths next to busy streets for safety reasons. If I walk with H or friends I enjoy walking in parks. I’m lucky that here in NoVA there are plenty of them!
I run more, but love a good walk. H & I walk somewhat regularly. We get into kicks and go daily for a few months and then hardly at all for a few months. It just depends on how we feel. Our usual neighborhood loop is 2 miles that goes through a cemetery.
I walk 2-4 miles every day, just as a way to get some fresh air and explore the many parks near me. There are some really magical places up here in MN!
If anyone is looking to start a walking program or to think about how strategy this is a good article. First you focus on building time walking, not pace. After mastering time endurance you can increase pace.
I love to walk. I started running because I thought I was supposed to run. But really, I just want to walk.
I walk 45-65 minutes almost every day. I like to walk on trails mostly but will walk around my neighborhood when it’s the only thing available.
Today my husband needs to check on a job which is near a hiking trail we like, so we are going to do that. I’m going to have to slow my pace for him but I’ll manage
I walk 4 to 5 miles several times a week as well as other fitness activities. I have several routes for when I’m alone - listening to music or podcasts and try to walk with a friend at least once or twice a week. I also have a dog which gets me out 1 to 3 times a day.
I love to walk on the lakefront, trails in the forest preserve and have a membership to the arboretum where I could wander for hours.
Just got back from a beachy area where I had elder care responsibilities but made sure I walked early morning on the beach- beautiful sand, sun and so much peace and quiet- great way to start the day.
I walk at least an hour a day. Today’s walk was 65 minutes, under clear blue skies and temperatures in the upper 70’s. What a treat for a midwestern spring day! OT, but I am hoping against hope to shake a kidney stone lose, because I really don’t want to have it removed Friday … I have a procedure scheduled because the darn thing is stuck partway down. Apparently, it’s not wise to just let it hang out that way for months, even if it doesn’t hurt!
We walk all the time, mostly around our farm when home (farm road and cul-de-sac to a couple other places). It’s usually gorgeous and we often see Bald Eagles or Herons as well as other birds and squirrels and whatever nature wants to show us that day/night.
When we’re staying with people we usually walk around their neighborhoods.
When we’re traveling we are also usually hiking or beach walking - we also almost always do stairs when we stay in hotels as long as our floor is 8 or lower.
We own a treadmill, but haven’t used it in years because walking inside is so boring. If the weather is really bad, we’ll just take a day off. I need to get rid of the treadmill someday.
For fun, some of us do Samsung’s monthly challenges to get 200,000 steps or more per month. I can’t recall not completing one and usually I’m done way before the end of the month - esp if we’re traveling/hiking. During the winter months it can remind us to go out and “enjoy” the season though.
Growing up our kids considered one mile to be a short walk. (It came up once in a conversation with friends who considered it a long walk.)
I can’t do long walks anymore due to arthritis and other foot problems, but this thread did inspire me to do the mile and a half round trip to my favorite ocean overlook. Flowers were busting out all over - dozens of varieties.
I have a bulldog. She refuses to walk (like a bulldog, with front legs and butt firmly planted). So I walk one of my brother’s dogs. He has two HUGE labs who are about 5 years old. They are too big for me to deal with unless they’ve been to the dog park and run off some of their energy. He also has a 14 year old husky who is perfect for me. We go out at a fast pace and then we both get a little tired on the return. Usually about 3 miles per day. We like it when it is cold and dislike walking in the heat.
Been off CC for a little while–fun to see photos here. Our family has always enjoyed walking/hiking. In the last year H and I, and one of our adult sons who lives with us, have been walking 1.5-4 miles daily–occasionally joined by other family members. We’ve only missed a few days during extremely bad weather. We walk around our neighborhood and at local parks, always observing the change of seasons, wildlife, holiday displays, etc. Our son makes sure H and I don’t slack off. We are in better shape than we were a year ago.
