Yields would be horrible. Wow is it cold. Wishing DS2 had applied to Cate right now…
True! Ironically, my Cate daughter was in Washington DC this weekend for MUN, so she was “fortunate” enough to “enjoy” winter for a couple of days
I know! Freezing here in MA. Today I am leaning against the school where girls’ dress code is to wear dresses or if they wear pants they have to wear a blazer with it. We went to visit on a cold day and our tour guide was wearing a dress with a cardigan and tall boots but not even a coat! Hope she caved in today and wore pants and a coat!!
We have winter in California. It goes below 60 at night.
@SculptorDad That is the funniest thing I have read all day. I’m at least familiar with California winter. My parents were sort of nomads when I was growing up. Twice they moved while I was in boarding school - I used to joke that I could wake up in my own room and not even know. Lived in several SoCal communities Thousand Oaks, Granada Hills, Valencia and Palmdale. We did get snow when I was home in Palmdale on XMAS. Not much and it didn’t stick around long.
My wife still uses heated mattress and heated blanket. And she turned on house heater in the morning because 62 degree was too cold for her. We are not moving away to anywhere soon.
GoatKid was traveling with her club this weekend to a tournament in the Midwest and sent me pictures of snow!!
You know, that white fluffy stuff that apparently falls from the sky in certain parts of the world unfit for human habitation.
I too will escape one day. In 12 years, 8 months, and 14 days. Not that I’m counting… Well the app does it for me
It was only -8 yesterday morning with a windchill of -29. When I picked my kids up last night at Exeter for dinner-neither wore a real jacket- both a hoodie with fleece lining. They refuse to care about the temps. The school even sent a notice to try to encourage students to wear jackets. As I moved from the west coast 2 years ago- I was wearing one.
We strategically completed all NE interviews in the fall because we don’t own coats or jackets .
It is snowing here today (finally past the negative straight temps) and tomorrow is supposed to be 50 and raining! Got to love New England.
I’m sitting on the patio with my iced tea and iPad grateful to be here but kinda missing snow (not negative temps, though). I was born and raised in the Midwest and spent ten years in the Boston area before moving to a warmer clime. It’s nice, but I miss the seasons a lot, especially Fall.
ChoatieCadet texted a pic yesterday of him in his Army-issued full-length coat/cape. He looks exactly like a hotel doorman. I hope that thing is warm. He wasn’t smiling.
I have been driving around western MA and Boston area this long weekend. I left my house at 65 degrees and landed in single digits. Although I packed muffler/scarves, coat and gloves, I forgot several essentials, fur hat, earmuffs, fur lined boots. The scenery looks familiar, either from Fargo movie or winter driving days in Cleveland/Buffalo decades ago. Apparently Midwestern winter has become mild and NorthEast became North Dakota with lake effect snow thrown in.
I had this conversation AFTER he went shopping at the outside outlet mall:
Me “How’s the weather up there?”
DS “Damn cold.”
Me “How’d your new winter coat, hat, and gloves work out for you?”
DS “Don’t know. Didn’t wear them.”
Will I be banned from CC if I share that we have had almost a week straight of temps in the 80’s in SoCal?
And all my students do is complain about how “hot” it is and ask to turn in work late due to their allergies (to the weather, not school)!
Oh, and after single-digits on Sunday, it was in the 50s here today. Back to “normal” 20s-40s for the next week. Ah, NE.
It was minus 17 degrees here in the Berkshires when our furnace inexplicably shut off on Friday night. I woke up at 4 AM to an indoor temp of 39 degrees. Even with a powerful woodstove, it took forever to warm the place up.
ChoatieMom! Your description of ChoatieCadet’s new coat is hilarious. I laughed out loud.
This has been a weird winter. Yesterday morning I was snowplowing the driveway, one of the budget cutbacks due to BS was the plough guy. By afternoon it was 45 and raining. Weird winter this year alternating warm and cold days. Looks like mid 40s again this week end.
I struggle with my kids and jackets in winter so I decided to make a point this week end. When DS2 refused to wear a coat while taking the dogs out I locked the door behind him. Funny how an extra 60 seconds spent in a breezy 20 degrees made the point.
That is priceless, @RedSoxFan18 — I would have given anything for 20 on Sunday. Flew back from Nashville (where it was chilly but nothing like Albany), and by the time I got from baggage claim to my car, which started unhappily, and back to baggage claim to pick up GG and the bags, my gloved hands were so cold I had to sit in the warming-up car until I could properly grip the steering wheel! No coat, indeed… sheesh!
Cate would be nice right now, but I’m thinking more about Punahou…
