TOEFL and GRE - help me please!

Hi,

I'm going to take the TOEFL on October 30th. I didn't name the codes of the schools yet, I'm wondering if I can name them NOW because I'll probably send in my application documents after the schools get my TOEFL results. So the schools don't know me, but get my results. Shall I notify them by eMail that my results will come in in a couple of weeks?

As for GRE: I'll need it for two schools and I think it's going to be a little tough for me. Do you think they set a high value on the GRE from a non-native speaker? If my results are not very good, should I send them in anyway? I'll need them especially for NYU.

Do you know where I can browse Communication/Journalism grad schools with no GRE requirement?

Thanks so much in advance!

Yes, you can submit your test scores now. Most schools will create a file for you when they receive the first item in your name.

Your GRE scores will probably matter - the verbal and writing sections, at least. I have heard from credible sources that science programs use the those sections for non-native speakers to estimate the applicant’s level of comfort with English because apparently the TOEFL is too easy to be of much value. If even science programs care about the scores, I cannot imagine that journalism programs - where your language skills are way more important - don’t.

Thanks, that helped me a lot.

The thing is, that not all schools to which I’m applying to request the GRE. There are only like two schools that want me to send in the results. They didn’t mention a minimum score or anything like that, so I was wondering if the GRE has a big effect on my application?! I’m interested in the program at NYU, not sure if NYU is very competitive or hard to get in…
What do you think?
