I am a US citizen and I’ve lived and schooled outside the US although in an English speaking country and English is my first language. Do I need to take TOEFL?
You need to check the policies for each college/university on your application list. Each of them sets their own rules about the TOEFL. There is no one simple answer.
Having US citizenship means that you are exempted from taking TOEFL because they assume that you already know how to receive/understand/communicate in english!
No it doesn’t. US citizenship based upon parentage comes with no expectation that the kid speaks English. One can have one or both parents be US citizens, be born in Mongolia, and never have spoken a word of English.
@happymomof1 is correct. Colleges have no consistent TOEFL policy. You’ll need to ask each school. Although in most cases in your circumstances, TOEFL would not be required. But you need to make sure.
