Too high? Just right? Chance me please will chance back.

I am a rising senior in the Bay Area here in Cali, and my region is known for its uber competitive schools. I plan on majoring in an engineering specialty, specifically mechanical engineering or comp sci.

UC Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon
Cal tech
Georgia Tech
Stanford
UCSD and UWash (legacy) are safeties
Cornell
MIT (maybe)
Princeton

GPA: 4.0 UW
4.6 UC GPA (my weighted is about the same)

-I've taken 4 APs and 4 honors so far, with 4 more coming up next year (taken all possible)

-N/A out of 400 (my school had the ingenious idea of not ranking us)

-SAT/ACT scores -- 2250 (710 math 740 reading 800 writing) I don't know what happened in math on that one. I got 800s on my other two (2180 2200) so super score is 2340.

-SAT II scores: 800 Math 2, 800 Bio E, 800 USH

-AP scores not here yet, but I'm confident for 5s on everything minus french

-ECs -- Robotics: 9-12 co-president in junior year. Won Sacramento regional with team as freshman (heavily involved) team lead soph year and junior year we made it to the semis in Silicon Valley Regional
VP of French Honor Society
Volunteer at Children's Discovery Museum
co-EIC of yearbook
Varsity Football Team
Member of National Honor Society
Member of California Scholarship Federation
Played Club soccer since I was 7

-employment -- Currently working as an Earth Science Research Consultant (official title) at NASA Ames Research Center. Use GIS and numerous satellites (GRACE, MODIS) to track groundwater levels in Central Valley. Use Python computer language. Only high schooler on a team comprised of graduate and undergraduate students. Will publish two papers with team, both to be submitted to prestigious research conventions (so far we have heavy interest)

-honors/awards -- Won BLADE Networks Entrepreneurship Award for innovative task card training system that myself and another member of robotics developed
2010 yearbook won prestigious Gold Crown and Pacemaker award.

-solid recs from robotics mentor, AP Bio teacher, and AP Calc teacher

-White male.

Thanks and I will chance back.

I think you have near fantastic ECs and statistics; it’s amazing. In fact, you’d be one of the students I’m scared of, haha. If you get your research papers published, you’re on your way to having a near perfect application in my opinion. Anyway, these opinions are all based on my knowledge and prior research.

UC Berkeley - safety
Carnegie Mellon - low match, match
Cal tech - high match / reach
Georgia Tech - low match, high safety if there’s such thing
Stanford - high match, reach (like it is for most people)
UCSD and UWash (legacy) are safeties - you’re correct
Cornell - match
MIT (maybe) - high match / reach
Princeton - high match / reach

Take note that I follow the mindset that most Ivies and top institutions are reaches for everyone.

Chance me back please!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1167828-chance-me-some-top-schools-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Overall you’ve got a very solid shot. Considering how competitive the schools you’re applying to are, I wouldn’t say you have a 100% chance, but you’ve still got a fair shot at the ones like MIT and Princeton. Those are pretty much a crap shoot for everyone to me though. You also have a pretty strong shot for ones like UC Berkley and Georgia Tech.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1165997-not-another-chance-thread.html</a></p>

Your SAT scores and GPA are comparable to others applying to top tier schools but your EC’s and employment are especially impressive. I’d say MIT, Princeton, Cal Tech, and Stanford are reaches or high matches and everything else on your list is at worst a match. The schools you listed, to answer your question, are just right. Good luck applying!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1167426-chance-me-plzzzzzzzzzzz.html</a></p>

Thanks for the chance gerian. Now to return the favor:

Wow, Mycoalwin said it best, you’re one of the students I’m afraid of haha!

UC Berkeley-Saftey
Carnegie Mellon-Match

Georgia Tech-Saftey
Stanford-Reach
UCSD and UWash (legacy) are safeties-correctomundo
Cornell-Match/very low reach
Cal tech- see MIT
MIT (maybe)-I say match because you’re EC’s fit in so well; like Mycoalwin said all these top tier schools I view as a reach as well, but I feel you are a bit more qualified.

Princeton-reach

Good luck!

Great Job man, you’ve done a fantastic job in your four years.
I think with good recs and superb essays you could go far. 2340 is also great. Make sure to push you getting published. That’s what will really take you far and can be your flagship piece of the app.

In conclusion:

UC Berkeley-Safety
Carnegie Mellon-Match
Cal tech-Mid Reach
Georgia Tech-Match
Stanford-Reach for everyone
UCSD and UWash (legacy) are safeties-duh
Cornell-Little bit lower reach
MIT (maybe)-Mid Reach
Princeton-Reach

Good luck, and chance me back!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1167842-chance-me-top-tier-new-post.html</a> :D

thanks diplomonad!

Yea the publishing is a given because we are required to submit one to the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and also to the Groundwater Resources Association. We also submit our paper to an international remote sensing conference in Barcelona.

UC Berkeley-Safety
Carnegie Mellon-match
Cal tech-Reach for everyone, but I think you have a very good chance
Georgia Tech-Safety/low match
Stanford-Reach
UCSD and UWash (legacy) are safeties
Cornell-Match
MIT (maybe)-reach
Princeton-reach
You have good numbers and ECs. Make sure your essays/recs are good and I think your results will be great.

I’ll be doing FRC this year, we didn’t have the money to really start one before.

You have great stats with your test scores and GPA
Your experience in engineering is also really impressive. I really like how you start with robotics and then it leads into separate and professional awards and achievements.

UC Berkeley - Safety
Carnegie Mellon - Match
Cal tech - low reach maybe a high match
Georgia Tech - Safety
Stanford - low to mid reach
UCSD - Safety
UWash - Safety
Cornell - match
MIT - low to mid reach
Princeton - mid reach

I wouldn’t have a difficult time believing it if you got into all of these schools. Your a great applicant

Thanks for chancing me earlier! Your ECs are fantastic. Your GPA is great. Id say your in everywhere. It’s their loss of they don’t admit you

GREAT APPLICANT!!

UC Berkeley - safety fo sho
Carnegie Mellon - low match, match
Cal tech - high match / reach
Georgia Tech - low match - saftety
Stanford - high match, reach
UCSD and UWash - SAFE/in
Cornell - definite match
MIT - high match / reach
Princeton - high match / reach

You are definitely one of the best applicants out there- good luck!! your sat’s and ec’s are fricken awesome! you’re so lucky! I wish you way more than luck!

Chance me back? Appreciate it :]

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1167065-chances-will-chance-back-promise.html</a></p>

UC Berkeley-safety
Carnegie Mellon-high match
Cal tech-low reach
Georgia Tech-in
Stanford-reach/high reach
UCSD and UWash (legacy) are safeties
Cornell-low reach
MIT (maybe)-high reach (for everyone)
Princeton-high reach (for everyone)

UC Berkeley - safety
Carnegie Mellon - low match
Cal tech - high match
Georgia Tech - low match
Stanford - high reach
UCSD and UWash - safety
Cornell - high match
MIT - high reach
Princeton - reach

good luck! :)

You are one of the best candidates I’ve seen on CC in a long time. Your acceptances are going to fall down to you as if they’re rain.

I say you get into every school with those stats! BUT, you have to remember that ivys and other really-up-there schools are always crapshoots. Anything can happen. So for UCB, Caltech, Stanford, Cornell, and Princeton, you are an extremely well-qualified candidate that has extremely good chances, but in this game anything is possible. Although, Stanford loves people that are REALLY good at something, and this definitely applies to you. I think MIT feels the same way. Since you want to go into engineering I recommend Stanford, MIT, Caltech, and UCB as opposed to the ivys, because they’re fine-tuned toward that field.

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1167793-chances-columbia-brown-cornell-nyu.html</a></p>

does anyone have any other suggestions for schools? I’ve researched for a while but input is always appreciated.

You have very good chances with all the technical institutes, because of your to-be published research and experience. That being said, Princeton and CM don’t go for just numbers; you have to impress them with your essays. Good luck, but I don’t think you need it.

Chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1168384-chances-couple-toptier-other-colleges.html</a></p>

You’re an extremely impressive applicant. You just have to nail the essays and I think you have a good chance of being accepted into everywhere.

one thing that I really would like assistance on is new colleges. I probably won’t apply to all these schools (cornell) but I’d like to see what other colleges are out there. I’m a bit late to the visiting/researching part and I regret that.

OMG ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS LIVES IN AMES WHERE YOU ARE WORKING (that’s an exciting place for election time)!!! (random…sorry…)

WOW YOUR STATS ARE IMPRESSIVE. and your accomplishments are too. if you had a siemens or intel award i would say that you’ve got about the best shot possible at MIT, but b/c you don’t I’d say that you still have a FANTASTIC shot at either MIT or Caltech, and will likely get into at least one of them. same goes for stanford and princeton. i think it is VERY likely that you’ll get into one of your reaches :D

I’d say you are a match/safety for everything other than the Ivies, Cal Tech, and MIT. Those schools are reaches for practically all applicants, though I’d say your research and technical work puts them as low reaches for you. You’ll definitely be in at some, if not all of them. Great Job!
