Too Late to Accept Financial Awards for UCI?!

Okay, so I’m the first to go to college in my family so I have the tendency of freaking out over everything because I don’t want to mess things up that could potentially hurt my admissions. Recently I’ve gone on to the UCI Financial Aid Application, and I was able to view and accept my awards, but I didn’t because I wanted to make the right choices. This included loans and work study. I went on today and found that it is now unavailable. Instead of me being able to view my awards, I can only see the chart the lists all the documents I must complete. Does this mean I wont receive any of my awards? Will I still have the option for work study? Does this also mean I won’t receive my UCI/CAL Grants? (Mind you, it was good amount of money that paid off almost all of my tuition). Please Help and Thanks!

Before we get to details, What Were You Thinking??? Did you think the scholarships would just sit there waiting for you?? There are deadlines…

Call the college tomorrow and talk to the FA office. See what can be done.

This whole “accepting awards” thing is kinda ridiculous, at least for grants…It’s obvious you’re using those.

Anyways, I suspect that if you call the school they might be able to help you. Cal Grant is entitlement $$ & this wasn’t a CA government deadline, but rather a school deadline. So they can’t stop you from receiving Cal Grant, but they could hold off any institutional grants.

The accepting the whole awards thing is not obvious; if you are not attending the school in question there would be no need to accept awards especially for state and federal aid which can only be assigned to one school ( the one that you ultimately attend).

^ which they should know from whether the student is attending or not…

Cal Grant is assigned a school on the Cal G website, by the student himself/herself, which to my understanding can be fixed pretty late in the game if there’s some sort of error. Of course the OP should make sure it’s correct ASAP though.

Actually, this might be part of the error if the OP hasn’t done it yet…Regardless, the school can’t hold CG back.

At one daughter’s school (maybe both? can’t remember) the awards that are ‘free money’ like merit award or a state grant are automatically accepted but the student has to go I and check the loans that she wants to accept.

Contact UCI. They will tell you what to do about your financial aid award.
