Too late to apply to film/media/TV programs for undergrad program?

Hi i am a rising senior who has just realized her interest in film/TV productions. I have no experience in this field, except for the fact that I participated in many musical program (if that counts). Basically all colleges I have looked into require portfolio, such as the USC film/TV production program http://cinema.usc.edu/production/index.cfm, which I obviously was unaware of and am unprepared for. Am I too late in the game to start making my portfolio and apply to these programs? PLEASE HELP!

Top film and video production programs that exist in their own schools will require a portfolio of some type.

However, there are lots of good (but not elite/top) schools that don’t require a portfolio where you can also study film/TV production. For example, Ithaca College has a very good school of communications with several majors that are relevant to film and television production and you don’t need a portfolio to apply there (or at least I couldn’t find anything on the website indicating that you do). Marist College also has a great media studies and production major with a concentration in film and television, but does not require a portfolio.

Basically you just have to poke around a little. You likely won’t be able to go to USC or NYU, but there are other great schools you can look at.

@juillet ah i see… thank you so much for the info

Boston University has a top-ranked film/tv program, and since it is located in their College of Communications I believe you can apply without a portfolio.

Even University of Alabama! One of their students won the college version of Academy Awards for picture of the year two years ago I think it was.
