Too late to apply?

It just occurred to me that I should probably apply to another non-Ivy League school..

Duke is just Common App so I could probably whip up the app in about 2 hours.
I could also send in my SAT scores today.

What if I went back to school on the 5th, and had my teacher/counselor stuff sent out by the end of the week, maybe the 9th or so. Do you think Duke would still take my stuff that late, as long as I submit my app today?

They don't ususally hold it against you if your school forms are late as long as you get everything in on time...

but If you are applying to Duke just because its a not an Ivy, I wouldn't expect it to be much easier to get into...

also, Duke does have a supplement

Thanks for the help. Yeah, I saw the supplement. I've written like 10 "Why ___ Engineering" essays already, so once I do a little research that won't take long.

And of course Duke is very selective. But their admission % is more than twice that of some other schools I'm applying to, so for me technically it is easier to get into.

I think I'll go ahead and apply.

Um, brah.
Duke is way harder to get into than many of the Ivies.
I know of many idiots in my high school who got into Cornell/Dartmouth/Brown but not Duke.
More idiots will apply to Ivies just because they are Ivies- that's why they have more applicants and that's why they have lower acceptance rates.

don't your school forms have to be postmarked by January 2 also? Right? RIGHT?! That's the only reason I threw out a lastminute Princeton .. I thougth my counselor forms and transcript had to be postmarked by the deadline!

Well, I wouldn't say Duke is "way harder" to get into.. the stats wouldn't support that statement.

Like I said, of course Duke is selective. But last year, Columbia had more applicants than Duke and took a smaller class. Therefore, I have a greater chance of getting into Duke than Columbia, making it worthwhile to at least apply.

Update

Nevermind.

I just shivered at the thought of cheering for Duke basketball for 4 years. Good school, but I would never go there...

Please delete thread.

So in a span of one hour you managed to insult just about everything Duke and on the Duke board no less? Either you are a n00b troll or you are just severely deficient in tact. In any case, I almost feel sorry for whatever school accepts you. At least I'll have the comfort of knowing it won't be Duke.

You are a noob, I'm going to apply to Duke ED next year and the basketball team just makes the place even greater. But I was a Duke bball fan since before I even knew that Duke was a school so that's just my perspective.

Duke doesn't want you, OP.
You sound like a loser.

um, blu_g8orade, wow?

i agree with you that duke is easier to get into than say hyp, and maybe columbia, but it's harder than cornell, penn, etc. you're pretty misinformed on that point. and if you're seriously going to refuse to apply solely because you don't want to cheer for the basketball team, that simply shows how shallow your reasons for applying to a school are. thanks for not applying. it's much appreciated, seriously. =)

this made me wince :(

<3 duke!!

not hating or anything but its good for everyone that he didnt apply on a serious note...i dont think he would fit in at duke, he seems to be turned off by school spirit and concerned only with ivy-status and what not..duke seems much more social and chill from my experience...it just wasnt a good fit and not a good idea to apply...worked out best for both parties (duke and potential applicant) that he didnt apply.
