I really want to go to CMC (or Pomona), but since I’ve been running the confusing and formidable college application process on my own, I failed to learn that interviews were important and must be done early in the application process…
Since I no longer have a chance at an interview, should I write a letter to these campuses stating that I have visited them over the summer and was enchanted and that they are (especially CMC) my top choice? Should I go down and visit the school anyway and try to make sure they know that I am interested?
Thanks!
CMCs commons data set says demonstrated interest is not a factor. Of course we don’t know if that’s actually the case but even if it is taken into account it’s a very small part of the app. I don’t know if I would write a letter but I’m not informed enough to say one way or another.
Hi @oboeplayingcorgi , I don’t know your other “vitals”, i.e. test scores, grades, ECs, etc., but all things being equal at least for Pomona, having an interview may be factor. Especially in the Regular Decision pool. I remember talking to a great coach there with my child and he pointed out that they like to meet their candidates. I suspect (have no evidence, so it is purely a gut instinct) that if an Admissions Committee is going to offer one of their limited positions they would prefer to offer it to someone who really wants to go to the school–all other factors being equal. All schools are rated by their yield (% of students accepted versus those who matriculated).
Regarding emailing, If you look on their respective websites, they have the Admissions Officer that oversees your county/state/country and their email address cited You could write your CMC AO an email and indicate that CMC is your first choice and maybe share a snippet about why. They are slammed with applications now, so be brief. Best of luck. CMC is a wonderful school!
@CallieMom Thanks for the advice! After closer inspection, CMC offers RD applicants to make a video and that will be a good replacement to a letter, but I will write one to Pomona. Hopefully I can matriculate at one of these universities!
CMC states that the video is an optional supplement, recommended for those who could not or did not interview. I think you’ll be fine making a video for CMC. Don’t waste any of the valuable time explaining why you couldn’t interview though. Good luck!
Hey there,Woanderig…sorry to barge In on this thread, but I noticed you’d been accepted and just wanted to congratulate you…few months late, since I haven’t been on the site In awhile. Early admission?
@stagalum Hey! Just saw this. Thanks! I applied and accepted Early Decision.
