But any recruiter will tell you that the interviews are part of the hiring process, which is the part of the process I’m involved with. You’re taking semantics a little too far.

lot’s of negativity in this thread… cheeelll people.

now back to the main question:

mechanical engineering internships?

A simple google search of “mechanical engineering summer intern” yielded a number of possibilities, some posted within the past two weeks.

Try [this one at Northrop Grumman](http://careers.northropgrumman.com/ExternalHorizonsWeb/getJobPostDetail.do?sequenceNumber=178378) or [this one at Tybrin, posted May 19](http://www.applyhr.com/13343258) or [from L-3 Communications, posted May 14th](https://www4.recruitingcenter.net/Clients/L3/PublicJobs/controller.cfm?jbaction=JobProfile&Job_Id=41472&esid=az). Just keep searching. Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut also has a number of summer placements still listed on their web site. Perhaps some of those are still unfilled.

Each of DS internships from first contact to first day on job all happened within a two month time period. His second Microsoft internship happened fairly quickly because the principle investigator forgot to apply to HR for interns, and DS application was quickly matched to the PI.

His third internship happened even quicker because the PI needed a continuation of the project and DS still had not secured a job.

Two summers ago, an intern backed out at the last minute (this was late May), and we had to scramble to find a replacement. There still might be something out there even at this stage.

Nice … how did this work out? Call the remaining qualified candidates and let them know there’s still a position available? While students were starting their summers already? Wow

I called a friend of mine and he backed out of his internship with the city to come to my company. They interviewed him on a Wednesday or Thursday and he started the following Monday. Of course this meant the city was now short one intern, and I have no idea what they did.

There were almost no civil engineering internships available in our area of the country (Western Mass). Apparently whatever stimulus money there was didn’t make it out here. So my son, a rising junior with a 3.88 GPA with four summers of construction work experience, who applied throughout February - May at dozens of firms and agencies, is working construction again. In this economy, I guess he’s lucky to have a job at all…

what about now that its late March? is it too late? for someone like me who already completed his BS degree?

It’s not too late to find A internship, it’s just that you’re not going to have a lot of options. Last year I got an internship in late April, so there are still companies out there that hire interns late. It’s a lot harder though.
