To make a long story short, I never finished my Vandy app. I got a full ride to a state school (Pitt) but am thinking about "testing the waters" at some higher ranked schools and Vandy is one of them. Problem is I go back to school on the 5th which means my transcripts/rec letters wouldn't make the deadline which is the 3rd. Should I just forget about applying to Vandy or does it not really matter as long as the actual app is submitted by the deadline?

you should call the admissions office and state you wish to submit all aspects of your app but that your transcript would have to be FAXED in on January 5 along with your GC reference. Someone is likely to be able to answer this question for you quickly. I think it is not uncommon for some references to come in first week of January. don’t know about transcripts. At my son’s oversized and underperforming high school, the poor teachers had to write references on their holiday and basically didn’t do them till New Years weekend after their family obligations were over from what we could tell in colleges where the student can see when each portion of an application is complete. Call Vandy admissions…or post an email to your regional rep which you can locate on the Vandy website. Personally, I would simply call and ask for an answer.

I’m sure you’ll be fine. But, like Faline said, just call or email to make sure.

as long as you submit your application by the deadline, you are okay. Just send the rest of the materials ASAP.

can you let me know what they said? i am in the same situation!

Sorry I can’t help you selter, I decided not to bother with it (not my first choice anyways). I’m sure everyone in here is right though, you should be fine.

As you may know, the VU Admissions Blog has been “sick” and archived posts aren’t currently available. However, in years past there have been posts regarding the large volume of mail that will be received and sorted this week. I believe the key is that all parts that you control be submitted by the deadline (today?). As long as you are having school reports and recommendations follow this week, you should be fine e-mailing your admissions counselor to indicate this. You could also call, but with student workers not yet returned from break, you may find e-mail more efficient.
