Too Long? SOS!!! 911!!!

I know there's another thread up here that discusses optimum essay length, but i wanted to make this a me-specific question.

my essay is really really strong and solid, and its pretty moving too... Its 1100 words long... Now i know how most people tell u 500 is just about the limit we should keep in mind, and i know the commonapp doesn't give an upper limit, but will it tax me.

I mean, it deals with ALL my life rather than one experience, its VERY cohesive, solid, and there are no extraneous details, and anything i omit will cause it to lose its charm...

So the question is, how long is too long? because i don't mind being the one who borderline's on the upperlimit...
Also, someone at another thread wrote columbia and yale will plainly toss it out if its long. Any truth to the matter? Cuz im applying ED to Columbia on the 1st of Nov, which is just a few days away... So opinions, ANYONE...

Humm…as we are not in the admissions office for Columbia…and their directive is capping the essay at 500…you might want to take that to heart…no one on CC can be definitive.
Your essay will still be powerful-just shorter :)

i’m chopping it down totally…

but i don’t think its their directive… its really nowhere on the app or their literature or anywhere… It feels like an urban myth… But yah, i will bring it down to a 950 or something… thanx =)
