As a senior this year, along with an abundance of college stuff to complete, I decided to pick up four aps-calc ab, Spanish, computer science, and physics c (mechanical and electrical). One of the college’s I’m looking into was McGill and they want students who are going to the electrical engineering field to have physics AND chemistry. So I switched to chemistry as an elective, but my friend told me it’s an independent study and that I may do better in the ap class. I spoke to the teacher and ask her if I can do the summer assignment within a week and take the exam with the other ap chemistry students (claiming that If my score was above an 80 I’ll consider joining the class). Doing all this summer work within a week is a pain, but I was wondering is taking ap chem as a fifth ap course too much for a senior-especially with all the college things to compete.
It all depends on the student. For some, 1 or 2 AP’S are too many. Others can handle 5 just fine. Only you (and perhaps your parents and GC) can answer the question for you.
If i’m going for Electrical Engineering, do you think i need to pick up AP chem or is Ap Physics C ( Mechanical and Electricity and Magnetism) along with honors chem good enough? haha i’m sorry if these questions sound a bit childish, but the main reason i’m stubborn about taking AP chem as my fifth one is because during my junior year i procrastinated and didn’t put nearly as much effort as i had put in my freshman and sophomore year. So i wanted to switch back to being productive this year, but i think taking 5 may be too much for me. Persoanlly AP Calc AB won’t be difficult as i had self studied differential Calculus and some integrals on my own and Ap Computers is just programming so i’m gucci! The only thing that sends shiver down my spines at the moment is Physics.
Well, you sound unsure- my advice would be to ask students who have taken AP chem at your school and see how they thought the class was. Firsthand advice is the best bet.
