So during orientation, my advisor lifted the 16 credit limit for my 1 credit honors colloquium. This was when my schedule added up to 17. In the many times after orientation, I've changed my schedule around and ended up with a schedule with 16 credits.
Testudo has always yelled at me for going over the credit limit but last week I got off the waitlist for Spanish and when I added it to my schedule, Testudo let me save it and didn't yell at me. Thus, I somehow managed to sign up for 19 credits O_O; At first I thought it was because my advisor lifted that limit during orientation but since Testudo wouldn't let me go over 17 before I'm confused whether I slipped through a crack in the system or what?

So that's my current schedule. I've been waiting for some sort of email or something that'll yell at me about going over the credit limit but it's been almost a week and nothing has happened & my schedule still has 19 credits.

Will I eventually get contacted about this or can I actually carry on with this schedule? And if so, do you guys think I'll be overwhelmed by this combination of classes? I want a somewhat challenging schedule but will 6 classes be impossible especially as a freshman?

i think it has something to do with the waitlist, but i'm not sure. if you slipped through the system somehow, you're fine. nobody goes through and yells at people after the fact (that's why testudo has blocks). if they do, you say "oops, i don't know how testudo let that happen" and you're fine; it's not like you'll get arrested or anything.

second of all, your schedule is by no means challenging--just busy. :) since you're in pretty much all 100-levels, academically you should be fine. however, do you really WANT to go to 4 classes in one day??? especially the alternation between 3 classes & 4 classes -- that's going to get tiring fast.

you don't NEED to take 19 credits. i vote for dropping comm107; you can take that any time over the next couple semesters as it's not a prereq for anything else.

I vote for dropping comm as well...why start at 9 when you can start at 11? Especially if you live Denton (which as an honors student you probably will)...who wants to walk to Skinner that early in the morning? Take Comm 2nd semester

depends. if it does get scanned they will drop it immediatly. really all depends if there checking or not. if it does get dropped its usually few days before class starts.

i'm assuming you are a business major. i too vote for dropping comm. i'm taking it this semester but i have 17 credits. and four classes in one day sounds not hard academically but hard to get through mentally. don't overwhelm yourself the first semester. are you double majoring??

yeah i'm an int'l business major and im planning to either double major in another field of business (finance?) and/or minor in korean depending on how i can fit all of the classes in. dropping comm would probably be the most logical choice since im not a morning person anyways but i think i'll stick to this schedule for now like the overachieving freshman i am :x (unless they find out and drop something for me)

look, i was an overachieving freshman too, so i know how you feel. but there really is no reason to take 19 credits. nobody is going to be disappointed in you. i'm assuming you have AP/IB credits-- so you're already ahead of the game. once the semester starts, you're going to wish you had more time to yourself and with your friends.

also, if testudo does drop a class for you, it might not be comm.... so if you're not sure about that one, drop it yourself so that testudo doesn't drop one you actually do want to take.

just my opinion :) but please don't let the fact that you're "overachieving" make you feel like you have to take 19 credits. ease into college.

lindz, thanks for your advice. after reading what you wrote and thinking about it, i decided to drop comm. i wanna enjoy my first semester and having an extra class to worry about doesn't seem too fun. thanks everyone for their input :]

sometimes they do change but most of the time, the old edition works well for the entire semester. Some new edition only has more exercises or readings or the page numbers are different, but that shouldn't affect the contents.
