Too many reaches?

Hi, I'm a senior in highschool trying to finalize my college list! I got a 1910 on the S.A.T and the highest weighted GPA on my transcript is a 3.96. Like many other applicants, I am nervous I won't get in to the schools I am applying to, and need to find more safeties. I will list the schools, and from that list please give suggestions on other ones! I want to major something RE: international relations.. and don't want to apply to any schools over 15,000 students, or under 2,000. Thanks!

Macalester
Kenyon
UVM
Skidmore
UC Davis
UC Santa Cruz
University of Oregon
Willamette
Whitman
Scripps
Pitzer
Colorado College
Occidental
Wesleyan
Tufts
Vassar
Maybe Elon..?

A number of these schools are out of reach (assuming that you are not a music prodigy, recruited athlete, or winner of the National Spelling Bee, etc.) unless you retake your SAT and receive 2100+. If you choose not to, I wouldn’t waste your money on applying to Macalester, Kenyon, Pitzer, Colorado College, Wesleyan and Tufts.

Your SAT and WGPA are hurting you, see if you can bump that SAT over 2100…Deaston is right in listing schools that wouldn’t be worth spending time on without a score or grade improvement.

I do think you would be a match at UVM (local knowlege) and possibly a match at Skidmore and Occi as well. The other schools left, I don’t know of or think it’d be too high a hurdle.

What are you looking into as a major? That might help you narrow down your choices for colleges that suit you.

Oregon is possible, but has over 15,000 students. However it is known to be a fairly tight-knit community and has great academics for a state school.

First just so you know scrips and pitzer are both much under 2000 students. If you count all the Claremont schools as one then there are over 2000 at all the schools added up.

Second two schools that you might have better chances at and that are bigger then 2000 but under 15000 are Tulane and gwu! If I where you I would go to gwu because they have one of the best international affairs schools and that would be perfect for you because of what you want to study. Also since gwu is in DC the internships you can get are countless.
