I’m in 11th grade and this is the third high school I’ve been enrolled in. I’ve been switching schools way too often because of some family issues and I’m worried that the lack of continuity will be unattractive to colleges, especially because I’m currently in a lower calibre school than the one I started in freshman year. I wish I could take more honors and AP classes, but I’m in a new state with different graduation requirements and I came to the last two schools mid-semester, so I had to take the leftovers. How much will this hurt my chances of getting into a good school like Georgetown or Syracuse?
Schools often see kids with a lot of high school transfers because of parents moving, military, homelessness, etc. You do what you have to do and the schools don’t hold it against you. My kids went to 3 different high schools.
Because of that, one of my goals for them was to go to the same college all 4 years. I’m happy to say one graduated last May having gone 4 years to the same school and the other will graduate in Dec with 7 semesters at the same school, one semester abroad, and a few credits one summer at a local college (to get the dreaded math class out of the way).
